That post is by no means "roleplaying a Cardassian".  It is on-topic and pertinent to the discussion.  It is the moderator report that is in error, not Legate Damar.

There's a fundamental stupidity about reacting badly to the good Legate, as it's completely at odds with HLP's precedents about people making gimmick accounts. We've had a number, Lord Death Ultrathingie or whoever he was and Holley come to mind. I could also cite Judge Floro as a gimmick account, even if he fails the Turing Test.

They were welcomed with open arms. Nobody moderated them. They were clearly playing their own role, or in other words roleplaying.

So basically what I'm saying is that this hostility is all hypocritical bull**** and you need to get over yourselves unless you've got a very good reason you can articulate why pretending to be Cardassian is worse than pretending to be really hyped for FS3. At least the Legate responds to stuff you actually say.

I think our problem with the good Legate is that it isn't funny, amusing, or infrequent.  He just throws out "Cardassians are awesome and everyone else sucks" at random in his posts, and he does it very frequently.  He also doesn't keep it in GenDisc like judgefloro.  An addendum is that he sticks out like a Cardassian at a sci-fi convention that doesn't have any Star Trek events.   We aren't a Star Trek forum and we don't have any hosted Star Trek projects, so it just isn't as smooth a fit with our memetic environment as someone roleplaying as a Cyrvan or Vasudan.

I don't think the FS3 thread from Lordsomethingthingie was any of those things either. It ran for something like a week continous, maybe longer. That wasn't a reason to have moderators get all up in its grill, and if you listen to Karaj talk about it they apparently found it immensely amusing that everyone was getting trolled by altposter.

Everyone's getting trolled (why I'm not sure) by a main though, so I guess that's different somehow?

Curious, I wasn't really addressing you so much as everyone, nor trolling. I'm genuinely mystified by all this.

Also I'd note that it has the convenient bit of your not having to answer Goob's question far more than not having to answer mine. I never actually asked you to defend your assertions, I asked everyone, and Spardason did so, and I gave him an answer, and we were having a pretty decent discussion on the issue I thought. It's not like being on-topic in this particular thread is mandatory, it's veered plenty down the pages.

Also, asking for splitlocks so you can have the last derogatory word (haha you're a troll!) is considered pretty bad form and has gotten people monkeyed in the past, so even if we take your statement at face value, that was still an unwise thing to post. And, frankly, far more trollish behavior by being insulting, not allowing the possibility of explanation and acceptance, and insisting upon having the last word. (tl;dr High Max pulled this **** when he was losing, that's not a comparison you want people to be able to make, okay?)

NGTM-1R, part of the issue with Legate Damar is that he shows up in already-existing threads with posts about the Cardassian way being better, so he pretty much just shoves it into the middle of the conversation, and people get angry with him just how we would with someone constantly interjecting like that in real life.  I think there would be a lot less annoyance with him if he made his own threads about these things and didn't jarringly interrupt the in-progress conversations with statements about how Cardassians would do it differently and better.

Can we please take discussions of Cardassians and whatnot to another thread or elsewhere and try to keep this thread at least somewhat on topic (what the GTVA needs to do militarily/politically to win the war)?

Regardless of whether anyone thinks Legate Damar's interjections are funny or not (I happen to like them, but that's besides the point), this digression is not about his behavior in general, but about that one post.  I see no evidence to indicate that he was roleplaying or trying to derail the thread.  Keep in mind that people can be mistaken when they report posts just as people can be mistaken when they write posts.

In fact, I find MatthTheGeek's behavior much more disruptive.  He stated a position without anything to back it up, and then when asked to provide such evidence, he made some passive-aggressive comment about not wanting to feed the troll (again, without saying who the troll was or what was trollish) and then called for the debate to be shut down.  That's not the behavior of someone interested in a fair discussion.

Your condescending attitude is apparently crippling your reading comprehension.  So let me reiterate the particulars of the dispute in easy-to-follow numbered list form.

1) The "one post" that prompted the moderator report simply said "...and your point is?"

2) The "one post" coupled with the "two previous posts" constituted the sum total of Legate Damar's interaction on that page of the thread, or on the previous page for that matter.

3) The earlier of the "two previous posts" in that interaction is the very post you linked to.  I'm not sure how you managed to miss that fact.  Did you lose count?

4) My point is that at no time in that interaction did anyone make any reference to roleplaying, Cardassians, or Legate Damar's history.

5) Those who have disagreed with #4 have not provided any support to their assertions.  (I don't consider "I disagree", or "He is!  Of course he is!", or "If you don't see it, I'm certainly not going to tell you!" to be support.)

But I'm happy to let this discussion play itself out to see where it concludes.  As such, I graciously accept the thanks for my sole action of moderation in this entire affair: splitting these posts.
