Hi, I have a small question. I just arrived to the "Universal Truth" mission in WiH3, and rightly assumed it would feature those image flashes that appeared before with Ken in WiH2. Is there any way to disable them? I find them a bit unsettling.

Thanks in advance, and congratulations to the creators of BP for such an outstanding campaign.

Extract the mission file from the vp, open it in FRED, and set the sexps that activate the images to false.

Good luck with that. You will probably break something.

A simpler way is probably to have someone whip up replacements (would they still be unsettling if they were kittens or whatever?) that will override the originals. You can place files with the correct name in the correct spot in your blueplanet2 directory (I'm not at home, but I believe it'd be blueplanet2/data/interface) and as long as they're also in the correct image format (.png I believe) they will override.

I'm not recalling exactly what names you'll need to give them, hopefully someone else can provide.

Why exactly do you want to get rid of them? Their supposed to be unsettling, that's the whole point of the mission.

Here you are. Extract the zip into blueplanet2/data/

All 'creepy' pngs are all totally black now, so that's what you'll see when playing.

(also, the 'show kittens when insanity level over 9000' idea would be a great JAD mission...)

Just play the mission in a well lit room, you will be fine. First time I played UT, it was 1 in the morning.... I didn't get much sleep that night.
If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong

So true.

Also, my productivity @ work was down next day, because i kept running the knowledge obtained through in my head...

yeah, so now i just have to psql -c "SELECT pg_start_backup()" and then all data regarding Vishnans will be safe. Wait what?!
Adm. Petrarch: For your excellent record of confirmed kills, you reached status of Ace.
Laporte: Dude, WTH are you doing in Indus briefing room?

I uh.... hmmm. Thinking about this, happy images like that could be just as unnerving if you look at it the right way. I mean just imagine it:

Horrible mind-eating monster chases you in the Nagari void...
KITTY!
The friendly crystal aliens were actually manipulating humanity to some unknown purpose and now want to kill us...
SMILING BABY! :D

Yeah... it would be like quick little reminders of all the good things in humanity that will be lost if you **** up. :(

Or simply, horribly creepy. You're completely ****ed up, in the worst, most horrible and most scary situation you ever were, pursued by monsters and with your sanity declining, and you have kitty pictures flashing in front of you. I know my sanity would take even more a beating in that situation.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Having nothing is even worse, your mind conjures up the horror of nothingness. You think of nothing, therefore you don't think, therefore you are not.

In short, Universal Truth will never let you escape the scariness, it is infinitely mutable and panontovoric. :nervous:

Keep in mind that the whole mission is just a visual metaphor for things happening inside your brain, sleep tight! ;)

The best way to escape the flashes would be to A) face them during day light with a friend or something or b) disabling the SEXPs, which would bork the mission.
I tried looking at the images outside of context, sadly UT finds a way to make them scary again. It's the bloody context that gives them that property.

Edit: "Seeing flashes of the apocalypse and acataleptic entities isn't normal, but on Nagari it is. Nagari, not even once."
