Scott "Elf" Elson reminisces about his career with MicroProse and other developers in this SimHQ feature. For those of you who are unfamiliar, MicroProse was one of the biggest (and probably at the time, leading) producers of simulation products and games for home computers in the 1980s and '90s. Some of my earliest gaming memories were formed by playing some of their sims. I figured that some of you here may find it to be an enjoyable read.
I have just remembered that I have a compilation disk of 3 flight sims somewhere on my shelves, one of them being F-14 Fleet Defender, which I think I only played once. Might be time to try it out again since I seem to be in retro gaming mode at the moment (been playing a fair number of late '90s titles lately).
EDIT: The article also includes stories from the author's time at Jane's Combat Simulations / Origin, and Infograme / Atari. I have a few Jane's titles but never played any of the more "study-type" sims they made. I have been playing some Jane's Fleet Command though (now known as Fleet Command by Sonalysts; I got that as part of a compilation of former Jane's naval sims).
