Fun and interesting first introductions to games
I recently somewhat randomly got my first taste of Disgaea on viewing this:

Made me watch a good few more videos. I wonder if anyone else can think of any similar experiences? I just love his voice, and that theme, they're perfect!  :D

Disgaea is actually a really fun game that you should probably play for yourself someday.

Well, the style certainly got my attention. I looked into it though and the reviews say it's very hard, so I don't know. I've beaten turn based strategy games before, but I haven't played one for a lot of years, I'm a bit off the genre. Unusual game, looks like a kids' game, but certainly isn't scripted like one. I do find myself endeared to the characters though. I'll probably end up just watching all the videos in that set at some point.

EDIT: Not quite true since there's Langrisser II which I played about a year ago. Need to get back into that game sometime, great game.

What the heck, I'll throw in a video of the start of that too:

I played two Disgaea games, the first Disgaea for PS2 and Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days for PSP. My biggest issue with it is that it does never end if you want to complete all achievements.:doubt:

It has its funny parts, though.

That won't be a problem for me. I pretty much ignore achievements, I play the game how I want.

I do look at them though, and occasionally if one sounds appealing and fun to go after, I'll go out of my way for it.

Ah, that's Captain Gordon, Defennnnnder of Earth's voice actor, eh?

Well, it is a problem when you think you're about to beat the game and stumble upon foes whose level exceeds that of your characters by 500%, if not more.

Well, that's unappealing, a difficulty spike like that.

Ha, you are foiled, mischief-maker! I already googled him. So many games, and only one that I've played (Warcraft III). There are a few where I've played a game in the series, but not the one with his voice.

Also, don't forget that if you want to venture into stuff like training your own creatures, you need dozens and dozens of hours.

Nooooooo...

I like long games. But not grinding.

Re: Fun and interesting first introductions to games
Well I like long games too (I broke 200 hours on Final Fantasy X, Ace Combat X and probably a few other games), but Disgaea turned out to be too much for me. Disgaea is long in the exhausting way, I used to be a big fan of it but I hard believe I'll ever play it again. ;)

RPGS: The only genre where extremely boring repetitive battles are not considered bad gameplay. :p
