Good question, I'm afraid it would look bad. The unit polycount has to be lowered significantly from that of FS. TA can't handle hundreds of ships at once if they are all FS polycount.

Thats nice to hear.  I'm also trying to learn some more TA modding. I tried to put the FS 1 ship hall music to play in the TA main menu. It didn't work though. I must find out!

Ahh, TA.  Thing I remember most about 1997's most highly acclaimed strategy game was it was the first I'd seen to model aircraft in a convincing fashion.  Meaning, they'd bank and go on bombing runs instead of just hovering there like a fool.

Thats right, bombers do just that. However there are floating type aircraft as well. Theyre called gunships. Theyre not stupid either. They circle around the enemy and fire continuously.
They don't stand still like Starcraft air units, making them harder to hit.

Yes, my point exactly.  The aircraft were smart!  

One time, I saw one of my regular fighters being chased by an enemy stealth fighter.  As the stealth was preparing to fire, my plane hit the airbrakes, slid in behind the stealth, and blew him to bits.

That's cuz it wasn't made by Blizzard; I think he was making a joke.  It was developed by Cavedog and published by GT Interactive.  They were bought by Infogrames, so this is the best I could find in regards to purchasing it online:

TA MODding was the first thing I ever tried to MOD, and although it got me into Rhino3D quite heavily, I never did make any units for the game. The tools back then were too complicated for someone who just had weekend leave every now and then to learn things.

I might be able to help anyone wanting to interface FS2 and Rhino, since that's what I use to make ships for FS2, but I don't have the time for anything else.
