I am just installing FS2 again after a long time off and noticed this project.  I got the game to install and FS1 and 2 look amazing.  However, the cutscenes for both are black and white and not in color.  How can I fix this?  Also, I can't seem to figure out how to get the Silent Threat expansion to work either.

It's possible that some third-part video filters/codecs are set to force black & white, I don't think the game itself has this capability yet.

Are you running retail FreeSpace 2, or FreeSpace Open?

Well, our first suggestion will probably be installing FreeSpace Open!

Sorry mis read the question.  I have retail installed, but I am running freespace open.

EDIT:  Ok apparently I was using the wrong .exe (shown in the image below).  Just used the one some instructions on here told me to use.  I downloaded another from another set of instructions (fs2_open_3_6_18_NO-SSE.exe) and the cutscenes are in color now.

Other question is, from what I read about the project it works with Silent threat, how do I get that to work?

Assuming that you want the updated Silent Threat: Reborn rather than the original, read this thread.  There's a fair bit to install (fsport + fsport-mediavps + str) but it's worth it.

If you're just after the original, it's in fsport.

Is the STR a completely different story line than the original?

The ST:R story is far superior in my opinion, I thought the original was not very good   Overall the story is the same though, i.e. rogue elements of the GTI have their own "solution" for the Vasudans.

If you could please, see if you can replicate the issue with a DEBUG version of the original 3.6.18 executable you tried (the "Default" one as it were).

If it does reproduce there, then I would like to see that log file please. (It will be generated in your $FSO INSTALL DIR$\data\fs2_open.log.

Put the contents up in Pastebin or similar, or attach it to the post, but don't post it AS a post please.

Of course after doing that and switching back to the fs2_open_3_6_18_NO-SSE.exe the cutscenes are back to black and white.

It was the only way I could find to install fsport.  Is there manual instructions for that and silent threat?
