This month's completely random closing question: what was the first custom mod/campaign you played?
Technically, that would be the MVPs.

You may want to be more specific.

Woot, the VP tools made the news :D

First mod I ever played was Meditations on the Abyss, since it was the only retail-compatible mod that made the headlines around the time I joined - and I hadn't installed FSO yet. Suffice to say, the mod left me wanting for more FS goodness, I pulled in FSO and the MVPs, and... well, I'm still here, five years later :)

If that's the answer you want to give, I can't stop you.

Also what does "custom mod" mean ? Custom as opposed to what ?

I can't really remember which mod I played first. It was either Sync, Transcend or JAD. Dekker should know.
If you hit it and it bleeds, you can kill it. If you hit it and it doesn't bleed...You are obviously not hitting hard enough.

Re: HLP Newsletter - May 2013
First Freespace Game: Freespace 2 OEM, it was from a gaming magazine, it ended on the mission when Repulse was destroyed.
Then I though for 3 years that no expansion to this game existed (and I loved that OEM version I wanted some more) but then I found the full version.
First mod was: Inferno and Blue Planet Demo, then FSPort.

Some bad B-grade campaign in 1999/2000 of which I can't remember the name. It had an alliance between the GTVA and friendly Shivans. The last mission had multiple Colossuses and Sathanas juggernauts fighting each other.  It was probably one of the first large-scale custom campaigns for FS2.

Derelict for me. I have fond memories of playing through that even though I had to cheat through some of it.
[16:57] <CommanderDJ> What prompted the decision to split WiH into acts?
[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something
[16:58] <battuta> it felt good to have a target to hit
[17:00] <RangerKarl> not sure if talking about strike mission, or jerking off
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> WUT
[17:00] <CommanderDJ> hahahahaha
[17:00] <battuta> hahahaha
[17:00] <RangerKarl> same thing really, if you think about it

Re: HLP Newsletter - May 2013
First one could be inferno or Blue Planet AoA. Or Warzone maybe, because I remember using the automated installer and playing everything from top to bottom of the list. The first time I installed FSO with mvps 3.6.8 I was pretty confused, because I didn't notice any diference.. :nervous:
Oh guys, use that [ url ][ img ][ /img ][ /url ] :/

Re: HLP Newsletter - May 2013
My first user made campaign was the original version of Aeos Affair. I played FreeSpace 2 before FreeSpace 1. After i searched for "Campaigns" i found the freespace site of VolitionWatch... and Aeos Affair was the first campaign in the campaign list :D. Only one week later Aeos Affair 2.0 with the additional and upgraded missions was released, but i played the new version many years later.
Shivan here, Shivan there, Shivan everywhere.

My english isn't very well, so sorry for a few mistakes.

Destiny of Peace - Was released with ST, so that's what I naturally got to first.

Warzone.

By the way, isn't Doko's tanker ship based on an old model created years ago? I swear I saw a similar design somewhere.

Re: HLP Newsletter - May 2013
If it is, its purely coincidental and to be honest I'm not sure If im gonna finish it any time soon as some parts of the ship I'm not happy with will require a lot of time to change properly (I haven't updated p3d for that one in a while). I guess it comes with freestyling in 3d software -.-

Even now, that thing stands up. It's a remarkably good low poly, tile mapped model.

Is saddened that the GTSD Bastion didn't make the Newsletter but that is what I get for revealing it in an eyecandy thread instead of it's own development one.

I believe the first mod I ever played besides the MediaVP's was Inferno R1 followed by Derelict.

Re: HLP Newsletter - May 2013
The first mod I ever played was Warzone. Bonus points for playing it on retail as it was before I discovered FSO. Second mod was Homesick (I think), back in the 3.6.9 days.

Giant Beamz huh? This is gonna be fun :)
