AoA has been voice acted for years. The name 'Raynor' is spoken once in dialogue in all of BP.

You should totally go for it then, it's really a much better name.

Raynor is so much more badass sounding than Erebus though.

Raynor makes me think of reindeer. Erebus makes me think of a giant, icy volcano - and is in fact death's daddy in Greek mythology.

I have no problem with the name "Raynor," although as a StarCraft reference I admit it's a little silly. But the fact is that it is now associated with one of the iconic ships of Blue Planet, and it irks me a bit to have such a prominent detail changed so long after release.

I cannot fault you for switching to a name that is so much better on paper, but I do think that it has its flaws. "Erebus," while a cool-sounding name and technically awesome, doesn't sound very memorable or distinct to me. "Raynor," "Titan," and "Orion" before them were very memorable, and therefore faster and easier to associate with cool ships.

On the other hand, even names like "Hatshepsut" eventually get drilled into players' skulls.

Change it all you want, but after all these years, I'll probably still call it a Raynor.

I would personally replace Raynor with something that is actually substantially cooler instead of some obscure hard-to-pronounce thingy.

Like, even something as lame as the name 'GTD Behemoth' is cooler just because its possible to pronounce/remember.

Like all our creative decisions this is not something we're going to crowdsource.

You know, "Raynor" could have been a person of some prominence in BPverse after who the destroyer was named. Would have been easier to write that up, rather than change the name considering it was mentioned as such in AoA. Raynor as it happens, is legitimate surname and has existed long before StarCraft.

"Air-a-bus" is not that hard to pronounce.

Accepting and responding to feedback is not crowdsourcing and you do it a lot.

Whats so difficult with Erebus?

Nothing. Good thing 'Atreides' seems to have been passed over, that was also being discussed at one point.
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

yeah, i don't understand the need to change the name either.  i had no idea "raynor" was from starcraft, but imo irrelevant anyway, because EVERY name comes from somewhere.

raynor just sounds better to me.

Well, giving that the new cap-shipclasses are named after greek deitis or mythological figures, Erebus is of course more fitting than Raynor.
All a thing of getting used to.

Let the BP team do what they want. Their executive decisions up to this point have been correct, no need to ask them to change their minds.

People change the names of mod ships all the time. It's certainly an odd choice to change the name of such a recognizable community ship once it's already been released, but that's the BP team's perogative, I suppose.

Change it all you want, but after all these years, I'll probably still call it a Raynor.

This though. For probably lots of people.

I know - I've been avoiding updating the wiki because I'm not really sure how to split all that stuff up.
