just your classical fire scene, it was a test for volumetric combustion ( I already know how to use it, but hey, it's "college"... ).
Mind you, it was ridiculously long to render ( 17.33 ) due to both a crappy PC and a vast amount of opacity maps, and that for a result that is nowhere near impressive. Oh well...

The tent is the only downside to that pic.  It looks 2-D and made of a horrible-grade paper.  Otherwise

The wavyness (better known as heat distortion) should only be above and in a small radius around the fire.  The way it looks now makes me think the entire forest is around 500°F.

More ambient lighting would help, too, IMHO.  Moonlight is fairly bright, even with a campfire in front of you.

And as for the tent...it needs a canvas texture so it doesn't look like it's made of paper, a few folds and ruffles to add dimension, and some tent pegs at the corners so we know it's nailed to the ground.

Otherwise, it's pretty nice.  Far better than anything I could make.

Carl, obviously, there's one, coz vlumetric combustion won't work as a light, so the orange tint around the fire comes from an omni.
bah, nayway, I've made a better one, I have to upload it, but for now I'm busy finiding all the crap to flash my stupid BIOS which won't recognize my 80Gb HD as a 80Gb, but a 34Gb
