Re: No (Star Control Reboot)
Oh, I'd heard it was a straight remake of SC2. I was kind of looking forward to that, I've never been able to get past the grindathon that is SC2's gameplay.

SC2 is grindy?

Re: No (Star Control Reboot)
Yes? What else would you call the process of resource collection?

It seemed to go by pretty quickly for me....  I guess I just never felt like it was a grind.

Over quickly? As long as you avoid going after really low-value resources, you tend to accumulate all the RUs you need fairly early on (and you also get RUs from destroying enemy ships).

To be fair, it's possible to not realize you already have all the RUs you need; the most important thing to remember is that you don't need a complete fleet of fully-crewed vehicles. A fully-upgraded flagship (up to the level of technology you've currently purchased from the Melnorme, of course) and a handful of useful support ships takes care of the entire game for you, and once you get near enough to the endgame that you actually need a full fleet, the Chmmr give you infinite RUs anyway. A lot of players think that the fact that they can't afford a dozen Utwig Juggers and a maxed-out weapons array for their flagship (you don't need weapons in every slot, and you don't want them anyway) means they need more RUs and keep mining, when really they need to be spending their time advancing the plot so that they can get access to even more resources (like getting the Shofixti so that your crew costs drop to minimum, or getting Quasispace tech so that you can get around the galaxy faster, and accomplish your objectives without constantly needing to refuel every few minutes).

And then there are all those special events where people just give you ships, for free. Those are awesome, and should be taken advantage of (even if you don't like the ships, you can scrap them for RUs for whatever you do want).

To gather RU I've always gone to VUX space and blown away fleet after fleet with good 'ol Fwiffo & his Eluder class voidship.  I guess that's a little grindy (i.e. repeating the same thing over and over) but it doesn't take long.  And you can have fun with the conversation tree there as well :)

Or, you could fill your flagship with high capacity fuel tanks (but only carry enough fuel to get to where you need to go), QuasiSpace to Druuge territory, and sell them the Burvixese Caster for all the fuel your ship can hold...

Re: No (Star Control Reboot)
Stardock already managed to do an excellent remake of Galactic Civilisations. I think they are capable of handling this reboot so that it honors the original.

Ah i support the thread creator.

NOOO.

Because of the fact i hate this reboot stuff... i want to see new ideas, in a new story in a new universe. Not old ideas in an old universe and a story that ignores previous events completely.

If they want to make a new Star Control... then please only a title that respects the story and keep the continuty of the universe. Star Control 4 is the only acceptable game for me.

As long as the game doesn't take itself too seriously it should be decent.

• It's a prequel that follows Earth.  So if you wanted answers to the fate of the Androsynth or to see the Ur-Quan history firsthand, Stardock would kindly like you to **** off.
• It's built in the Nitrous engine, which doesn't look like it's suited to SC2's mechanics.  I'm guessing they'll gut those and replace them with something completely different, but this is speculation.  I wasn't expecting a straight-up port from SC2's mechanics, but I was expecting something that tried to be somewhat similar in spirit if not in system.  And I don't see Stardock pulling that off.
• It will have Multiplayer.  Well, the earlier games did have hotseat multiplayer combat.  But it bothers me that they even mentioned this.  I get a bad feeling whenever a publisher or developer says that their game will have multiplayer, nowadays.

And The Ur-Quan Masters has had online multiplayer since v0.6.

And vice versa; I still occasionally fire up the original in DOSBox for the strategic gameplay.
