So I'm poking through the ships .tbl and i'm looking at the mentu thinking hrm... 60khp, thats a lot more than any terran cruisers have, almost as much as a lillith. However, for some bizarre reason despite its tech description which describes how the Mentu was specifically built to mount beam cannons, it doesnt. Instead of the "heavy beam cannons" the tech database describes, it only has a pair of Terran Huge Turrets. Did they have beam cannons installed in the mission files in the main campaign? this seems like a mistake to me =P
On the other hand the Mentu has REALLY CRUMMY turret placement. out of its four large turrets three are on the belly and the one on top faces backward, so none of them can actually fire directly ahead.

Don't remember if it used beams really...

If you fitted beam weapons on it's belly and upgraded the reactor / jump drive, it would be ideal for Guerilla attacks.  I.e. it could jump in, fly across a large ship / ships firing the 'belly beams'   , then jump out quickly.  something I've wanted to use in amission for a while.

also, on the same subject, if you look at the info on the Colossus, they have a list of the previously intended weaponry (an extra 20-odd turrets), with a lot more AAf, etc.  That would have been a hell of a ship if they'd used them in the final verison - wonder why not?

Nope, they didn't. It's easy to check out things like this, just use TextPad. It searches through multiple files in multiple directories and shows the results in a hyperlinked page that links back to the files... it's a good proggie for finding how many such-and-such were in the campaign, where and when, etc etc etc...

EDIT: URL mistake...

For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. I made a special beam for it, so it's not overpoweringly overgunned for a cruiser.

Terran slashers are very underpowered compared to the Vasudan ones.

That's true with most things, not only weapons... The vasudans have superior ships, but have fewer of them... (note, mentu, and aten do not count)

Shame that almost all of their fighters are Great War relics and totally useless

Tauret anyone?

for the Mentu: I change turrets 6 and 7 into SVas, and 14, 15, and 16 into standard flak.
This makes the cruiser much more powerful in my opinion.

Watch what you say! Blasphomer(sp?)!! The Seth, and Horus are excellent fighters. I prefer them to the newer ones... And the Osiris only needs turret upgrades. Give it AAAf or Flak, and it is a worthy opponent to any enemy.

If you are a good pilot, you don't need heavy heavy armor. The Seth is my ship of choice. Always has been, Always will be. Wheres the armour on the Serapis? It sux...  I can kill them in 3 shots of a mekhu.

so

Yeah, but I'm a (censored) pilot and prefer Terran fighters anyway. So   that  .

i liked the Vasudan ships maneuverability on the easy levels, but the Shivans are pretty useless on those.

I'm a crappy pilot, so for me, vasudan ships aren't the best. I loved my herc1 (then tried PXO and discovered that the herc was doomed, there). then I tried the seth. Yeah true, it's better for mplayer. But I'm just too bad
I prefer to make ships than fly them lol

What are you talking about.  The Vasudans don't suk  .  The Herc 2 is crap compared to the Tauret!  The Vasudan beams chare quicklier and are more powerful than the Terran ones.  The Vasudans are the supreme rulers in fighters :hammer escept for the Horus)
