I discovered something
While working on a project involving photoshop, I was looking around for screenshots relating to freespace and came across some screenshots of ships I've never actually seen before under the blueplanet category on http://www.sectorgame.com/f2s/gallery/

What are these ships? Where did they come from and what happened to them?

Screenshots are below

Oh and if they're around, where could I get them? Judging by the Karuna in the screenshot and the engine trails, they're not that recent.

P.S If this is the wrong place for the topic, please relocate it to the proper forum. Thanks!

The new ship shown in the second and third screenshots is the UEA Maalik, which was dropped in favour of the UEA Oculus because, IIRC, Darius didn't have permission to use the model for the UEA Maalik.

What a shame. And that Vasudan ship is damn sexy.

Check out those pheropods, boys! :pimp:

IMAGE INCOMING!

I wonder what happened to the Vasudan ship though.

Shame about the Maalik, it looks more "UEF"-ish than the Oculus.

The ships in the first image are also from X3: again, not used in the end due to being unable to get permission. That screenshot must have been a very early version of What Binds Us, as Sol still had blue nebula at that stage :P

I can't help but feel that Blue Planet would've felt very different with USC ships in it.

Actually, now I want to see an ATF fleet come out of a dimensional rift on top of a UEF/Tev battle, drunkenly shout something about protecting Earth, and open fire.

That's rather unfortunate that you didn't have permission to use the model, shame, we could of used more fan made Zod models.

TBH, Maalik was horribly optimized and looked really bad up-close. For it's size, it had a huge amount of polies and no proper UV map. While it worked, I'm glad we moved to a more reasonable design.
