Stumbled across this while browsing through Kickstarter and thought you guys might be interested. They have a playable demo up right now and the game is planned to be released in March 2014. The game is going to be multiplayer only. The game will be released for PC, Mac and Linux first, with console versions planned later. Gameplay is pretty straightforward from what I gather. There are two teams that each have a capital ship and several fighters. The fighters attack the other team's capital ship and whoever destroys the other team's capital ship first wins.

Here's the Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/271033429/god-factory-wingmen-0

it's astounding how quickly the prospect of yet another space shooter has become utterly humdrum!
The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

I thought you would :p And I agree.

Feeling a lot of SSZ vibes in this.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Looks very pretty, but multiplayer only? Can't get very excited about that...

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."

<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

A nice looking Eternal Silence without the FPS bits...

I kinda miss playing ES now, chasing down a loaded dropships, stealth coasting with a bomber among the asteroids and dodging fire while hauling the flag while hugging the terrain with the afterburner.

Available for pre-purchase now, with a 2-for-1 bonus game key.  Looks interesting, but the MP-only turns me off.
Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

  • The sky is the limit.
Same here. Going MP only is downright lazy. Is the art of writing game storylines really dead? So much stuff is MP-only these days, with single player either not present or a short, poorly written afterthought (or simply a tutorial). Sure, shooting a few guys might be fun. Still, a game that consists only of that isn't worth playing for me. To be really great, comparable to the greatest classics, the game needs an actual story. I've played many games where gameplay was meh (or even downright bad), but the story was enough to make me stick around until the end. I even get bored quickly with SP "pure sandboxes" with purely procedural missions, KSP being a notable exception (and that's because it's very moddable).

I'm not a multiplayer gamer either, but multiplayer gaming has grown, and thus games which are multiplayer only have become a thing. It's unfortunate for you and me, but it is what it is. A true multiplayer only game ideally all the time that would be spent on a single player game would be sunk into making an excellent multiplayer gaming experience, in the same way as single player only games can be excellent single player gaming experiences.

Heck I'd rather a game went multiplayer only to pull no punches about what it is, rather than slap a half-assed single player element onto the game, and leave single player gamers feeling cheated.
