Voice Commands from Game Commander
I recently read this post http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=53842 where someone was using game commander for commands. I had been working on developing a voice macro program for the game, but when I saw this i wanted to give it a whirl.

Is there anyone out there who currently uses this with the game that could tell me if it is worth using? Also does anyone have the profile that was referenced in this post, or a profile that works well for them?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Voice Commands from Game Commander
I saw that same post and tried to find more info about this too a while ago but ran into 2 issues: I couldn't find the Game Commander software anymore and I couldn't find the FreeSpace2 template for Game Commander either. So even if I could find the software (which hasn't been in production for some time), the template itself would have taken a long time to recreate - considering the number of keyboard commands available in Freespace2.

What drove me to try is the thought that it would be nice to be able to give a simple voice command to do something important in the heat of battle instead of hunting around on a keyboard for the right key/key combination (most of those commands you save for the prime buttons on your joystick - but those buttons are limited).

Re: Voice Commands from Game Commander
I've got a copy of the profile on my home computer.  I'm out of town right now but I can get it next weekend.  I used game commander for a while but had some problems with it.  It had a tendency to pick up background noise and interpret it as a command.  It got frustrating to be in the middle of a mission  and suddenly warp out or not have the program respond to commands.  Part of that might have been fixed by using a head set in addition to the microphone.  Anyway if you don't have the template by next week end I'll try to get it to you.
Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Exactly. Simple commands like moving shields, reinforcements, and maybe weapons configurations.

You should also look at HID macros http://www.hidmacros.eu/. You can use a second keyboard specifically for game functions and macros.

My end goal is to use a combination of the two to have a pretty nice cockpit. I also  can't wait to have more axis so I could have two joysitcks and pedals. Right joystick for pitch/roll, pedals for yaw, and the second joystick for throttle/sidethrust. There would definitely be a learning curve to get used to it, but it is something I have always wanted since the original game came out.

That would be amazing . Thank you very much. I doubt I will be able to build one between now an then . My free space time is limited at the moment.

Re: Voice Commands from Game Commander
As a stopgap, FS_Open does have some built-in voice recognition functionality, though it's Windows-only and just applies to the comm menu.  (Actually I'm not even sure if it's still compiled in official builds, but let's just assume it is.)

Hi

I used Game Commander, just for the comms since I have an HOTAS. Great for immersion. You could try VAC Symtem, it is a voice recognition application for games.
