Author Topic: Double HUDS?  (Read 4124 times)

0 Members and 1 Guest are viewing this topic.

I just redownloaded the game, excited to play the 3rd act finally.  Upon starting it, I noticed that I had two HUDs, one HUD bigger than the other one and slightly offset.

Tried disabling my HUD but it disabled both of them.  Edits to one HUD affect the other one.

Problem does not extend to Freespace 2 main campaign.

Is this some kind of graphics options problem from the main launcher or something?

Edit:  Yes i did try making a new pilot profile

Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

What resolution are you playing in ?
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

  • Bread can mold, what can you do?
As far as I am informed this issue has not been resolved yet. The only way to circumvent it is to switch to the 1024x768 solution.

Actually, there is an updated HUD table somewhere which handles more resolutions.

Alternatively, you can try different resolution ratios (I think 16:10 works fine).

I'm playing in 1280x1024 resolution.  When I played Blue Planet 2 the first time (which was over two years ago, I was still a senior in high school, man that took forever for act 3 to get released) I never had this problem.

I'm going to have to look into this HUD table thingy.  And I'll post the error code report when I get the chance.

This issue only occured when the third act Tenebra was released and that was in January 2013. So if you played BP2 two years ago you played an older version which didn't have this bug.

Well great so if I want to play this mod I have to switch to a widescreen resolution? =\

By the looks of it and until this has been resolved: yes.

Welcome to my world. :D

lol.  Well this wouldn't be the first time I've had to play a game at a 1280x720 resolution (I'm looking at you Bastion, FTL, and Dark Souls) so I guess it's livable with.

Anyways, thanks for the replies.

Here's the fixed HUD table: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89353583/FreeSpace/Blue%20Planet/bp2_fixed_hud.zip

Extract it to blueplanet2\data\tables (create it if it doesn't exist).

Doesn't work.
It works for me. My instructions above assume that you have Blue Planet 2 installed to the blueplanet2 folder, so make sure that you have BP2 installed there. Also make sure that you're actually downloading the file itself and not copying its text into another file. If the HUD is still doubled, then post your debug log.

Cool, it does work!  But your directions were not correct.

1. Right click the link and click "save link as"
2.  Create a folder in blueplanet2\data called "tables"
3. Go inside the saved folder with all the numbers and copy the three files from there to blueplanet2\data\tables
-The files are called index or something like that.  I think the .dat file is the money one.
-Here was were you were wrong, if you saved it directly to blueplanet2 all of the relevant files are tucked away in some random folder.

4. For good measure, I made a text file and copied all of the text into it as well and put it in tables.

Nevertheless, thanks mucho for the link!  Now I can play the game without having to kill my eyes on the small resolution.

I was assuming that you knew how to download text files and that you had to create the folders if they don't exist.

Three files? I linked to only one file: mv_root-hdg.tbm. Where did you see the .dat file and the file called "index"? And there should not be a folder with "all the numbers." Furthermore, unless you have FS2 installed in a protected folder, saving the file directly to blueplanet2\data\tables should not instead cause it to saved elsewhere.

If you're using Windows, make sure that you don't have FS2 installed anywhere in Program Files, Program Files (x86), the desktop, or My Documents. Having it installed in those places can cause strange behavior like what you described.

Aside from those two steps that I took for granted, I assert that my instructions are still correct.

For some reason your link doesn't give me a download option from clicking on it, or a regular "Save as" option when right clicking.  I used "save link as" and it gave me several files including the one you stated.

You might have noticed that I also said "or whatever your browser calls it." I was referring to the "Save link as" option. Not all browsers call it that; for example, Internet Explorer calls it "Save target as."

Your computer should not be downloading three files from that link. What's most likely happening is that your computer is creating some properties files for that folder and maybe the file. Such files are normally hidden, but your system may be configured to display them anyway.

What operating system are you using? The behavior that you're describing might be a quirk of your OS.

Vista, not surprisingly.  My browser is Firefox.  Anyways, it was only a minor problem so its not a big deal.

I do no how to dl and install a tbm file. And yes, my bp2 folder is blueplanet2. It's not a too big deal for me to play in 1024x768, but as I can forego it... fs2_open.log is attached.

You have quite a lot of loose files in your mod folders. Check the data\tables folder of each of these mods and try removing all *-hdg.tbm and hud_gauges.tbl files (other than the one that I linked to). It's possible that these files are messing up the HUD, even with my fix.

You did not install the required 1.20 retail patch. Get it here.

This is quite interesting and illuminating.

- What difference does it make how my mediavps folder is named?
- You need to patch retail fs2?

Anyway, I'll try it out.

Supplement:
I cannot run the retail patch because it says the original file isn't there. Doesn't matter, however, because it's working now. Thank you very much. :)
