I will share something. Something I find ironic. Yesterday I started watching Battlestar Galactica, the new one. When it first came out I was completely against it. It felt like some bastardisation that just slapped the BSG name on it to get the power of that name behind it. This time, I approached it with a new mindset, to pretend it has nothing to do with the old BSG, it's just an original work. Starbuck isn't Starbuck, Starbuck is a pilot called Kara Thrace who just happens to use the same callsign. The Cylons just happen to have the same name as the old cylons but are a completely different thing. The show just happens to have the same name as another show that was on TV a long time ago called Battlestar Galactica, etc. And it's worked and I've ended up really enjoying it on these terms and watched the first 5 episodes. When I first saw Diaspora, my first thought, I still remember this clearly was "what a waste" thinking about what was going into it, when it was for something I utterly disliked. But now, now I just might play Diaspora sometime...

It's not the only thing that made me try it, I was looking at the Diaspora board recently and wondering how such a thing could be so popular that I hated, and was I missing something, but SteelEagle has certainly played a role in nudging me towards the decision to give the show another chance. It's all been about the way I went into it the first time, expecting something so different to what I got, so my mind was just screaming "No! No, this is wrong! This is stupid! It's not supposed to be like this!" all the time I was watching. But now, just taking it on it's own merits with no preconceptions about what to expect about the show, I'm really enjoying it.
So in a strange twist, I feel a sense of thankfulness towards SteelEagle for this, and yet I know he's going to utterly despise me for it.
Indeed. Countertrolling is a waste of your time and energy. You're just giving someone power over you.
And here you are, doing it.
Where?
