  • You have been targeted for termination!
Hello all,

I recently tried to get Sol a History to work but now it is crashing the game and is unable to load.

I have downloaded the additional Inferno 1 release and its patch which was required but I'm not sure if it is located correctly.  I have tried putting it in a separate INFR1 folder and just putting it in the Freespace folder.  Both options are not working for me.

Can someone help me with this?

Thank you.

Can't look at the log right now but seriously, never ever put anything in the FreeSpace folder directly.

Your not the first person to tell me that General (your the second).

It was originally the only way I could get some campaigns to works.  That being said I have cleared out my freespace 2 folder of any "extras" as far as I can tell and I will not make that mistake again.  Instead I'll ask for help on why they don't load.

Anyways I appreciate the help and take your time, no hurry.

Let me know if there is anything else I need to do and thank you.

hmmm surprised at that one but might be worth cleaning out the above mentioned VPs and running again as it's possible that there is a species_defs.tbl in one of the VPs overrunning the one needed for Sol

Hello Headdie,

Thanks for the help and I did as you recommended.  Unfortunately for me it still didn't work.

I was able to get the game to work by going into the Mod.ini file and renaming the secondary list to say "mediavps".  I previously had changed it to "mediavps_3612" which is the name of the folder my Mediavps's are in but that seemed to crash the whole thing.  So now it works for the most part (after changing it back to "mediavps") but I'm getting warnings at the beginning of the game.

I have posted my latest open log and could use some help eliminating the problem.

Also I wanted to add the graphics looked a little bit weird compared to the other mods I have played.  I'm not sure if thats due to the inferno build or if something is messed up.  This is the original reason I switched the name of the mod.ini file to "mediavps_3612".

Again thanks for the help.

  • If somebody made a campaign I've probably got it
Where did you get your version of Sol A history?
There is an upgraded version that is here:
http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.108
You might try using the upgraded version.
I recently played it with the current nightly build and the 3.6.14 mediavps without any problems.

Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
The difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers is:
Mechanical Engineers build weapons.  Civil Engineers build targets
An optimist sees the glass half full; the pessimist sees it half empty. An engineer sees that the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Thank you Macfie.  I was able to get it running.  Graphics are just a little different.  For example the subspace portals.  Pretty fun campaign!

One of the best. Good luck!
Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move." - Captain America
