Author Topic: Beam size?  (Read 2124 times)

Anyone know how to re-size beams so that they are all roughly the size of the anti-fighter beams? I'm just not a fan of the massively huge beams.
I do remember long ago someone had made a small mod that resized all the beams in the game to be smaller, anyone know what became of this mod I've searched the forums and haven't been able to find it yet.
Thanks in advance.

It would just be a case of editing the relevant table file. It could upset game balance.

Got it to work finally I had to also edit the widths in mv_effects-wep.tbm, I was previously only changing the widths in weapons.tbl

Question? Why? Do you prefer lasers? A question of preference I suppose?

You would be well adviced to question the wisdom of older forumites, we all have our preferences and perversions

It is just my personal preference I like the look of smaller beams, the huge beams just look a little silly to me.

...It could upset game balance.

Yeah, contrary to my 1st thoughts the beam width can be used in beam-ship collision calculations.

Don't you remember one of the recent-ish mediavps added a much wider "haze" layer to the beams, which had the unforeseen consequence of making them actually collide using the wider size? Well when they realized what happened, they added an explicit override to let you set the actual collision width. So just use that.
