Freelook mode in 3.7.0 / 3.7.1?
Hi everyone, this may be a daft question, but I got quite confused about the current state of freelook mode when doing a forum search. I'm currently running fs2_open_3_7_1-20140324_r10520, does anyone know if freelook mode is usable in this version? I can't seem to get it working, but I read that it might be disabled in certain builds.

Freelook currently doesn't work in 3.7.0/3.7.1, there is a bug logged about it.  The current options are either TrackIR or PadLock (which is only close, not the same).

Just FYI, progress is being made on the Freelook mode in antipodes. As the mantis ticket reveals, there's already a simple patch that will restore the ability. However, there's been requests to flesh out the features to allow the mouse to be mapped to a slew axis when it is not being used as a flight controller.

Finally bothered to get my TrackIR working in FS. Wow.. that is a) awesome and cool but b) I have such a hard time keeping myself aligned that I can't shoot straight.

Very awesome though.

Ahh thanks! However, I just installed the latest nightly build (fs2_open_3_7_1-20140419_r10573) and the freelook key (currently Numpad 0) still isn't having any effect. Is there another option I need to enable or something similar?

Freelook isn't in the nightlies at the moment. In order to get a build that has that functionality, you will need to compile a build off of the Antipodes branch.

You may also have to manually re-map the freelook mode to a key, I don't think I got around resetting it to Num 0.

There's a lot of sensitivity tweaking you can do with TrackIR to help with this.  Also cockpit models aid greatly in keeping track of your point of reference.  That reminds me...I really need to get my tracking setup working again.  It does make a huge difference.
