Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
I've got an issue with FSO on both my laptop and my desktop, both relating to recent builds on FSO.  I previously was able to run FSO on my laptop without graphic issues, but when I tried using it to create a mock-up level for one of college classes as of recent, I found the system isn't letting me select Direct 3D or select even a resolution in OpenGL settings.  Can someone confirm with me that this is a build issue and not a system issue?  Testing this on my desktop with a newer GPU and AMD drivers confirms the issue is relating to the build or with OpenGL drivers, but there doesn't appear to be a clear way of getting an OpenGL driver updater.

Re: Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
FSO no longer supports Direct3D, only OpenGL.  Also, updating your video drivers should update the OpenGL (& D3D) drivers at the same time. When you say that "OpenGL" doesn't select a resolution, I presume you mean in the launcher.  Which launcher are you using?

Lastly, please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Re: Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
I'm using the original FSO launcher.  And I mean, the when I try launching the game, or applying the settings, the launcher alerts me to it not being able to set the graphics, and when I see it, it shows me no resolution was selected.  In the following attachments, in addition to the log, I am including an extra item to show what I mean by the resolution settings.  Thing is, I did install a recent GPU into my desktop (the system I'm trying to run FSO) and updated the system drivers to boot, but it isn't letting me select a resolution, even in Windowed mode.  My laptop gives me the same issue, too, even when I do a full-screen game, so it's gotta be the same issue, since both are up to date, and have the latest FSO engines (granted, I used 3.6.12 INF for the debug on my desktop).

Re: Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
It looks like you're using Windows8, unfortunately the 5.5g launcher isn't supported on win8.  Please try using wxLauncher instead.

Strange, because it ran fine in Windows 8 before...

Re: Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
Yeah, that is a bit odd.  However there have been a number of issues reported with 5.5g on Win8, and 5.5g is no longer being developed.

Re: Video Drivers with OpenGL/Direct 3D
I had a similar problem once where I simply copied FSO directory over without running any installers. Missing registry entries caused quite a few resolution related problems. Right-click on the launcher and select "Run as administrator", then set the settings as you wish and click apply or ok. Missing registry entries should now have been created.

5.5g is no longer being developed.
And it has been 11 months since last time wxLauncher was updated...

11 months since a new version was released, but code has been committed far more recently than that :)
