Re: 70th anniversary of D Day.
Indeed.  United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.  All should be remembered.  Too often we forget.

Re: 70th anniversary of D Day.
Therefore, let's not forget the French, The Polish, and all the colonies of Brits and the French whose members have fought in the European theater and since have become independent. It's suprising how often those are overlooked (esp. Free France).

Re: 70th anniversary of D Day.
Well, this thread is specifically about the D-Day landings, but yes, all nations who contributed to WWII are worthy of remembrance.

Re: 70th anniversary of D Day.
While there were no Polish forces in the actual landing, they certainly did fight in the campaign that followed and that ended with Germany's surrender. Anyway, the D-Day was a magnificent operation. Both the execution and preparations to it. The amount of deception it took to fool the Germans into thinking that D-Day is only a decoy is nothing short of amazing. Even more amazing is that they pulled it all out. :)

It may be 70 years later, but he's still kicking arse!

Quote
NORMANDY, France, June 6 (UPI) --A World War II veteran didn't let a ban from his nursing home stop him from storming the beach at Normandy once again.

An 89-year-old ma was told that he wasn't allowed to attend the Normandy commemoration ceremony in France, so he snuck out and went anyway.

The elderly veteran was reported missing on Thursday evening, but another unnamed veteran called the home and said that they were both alive and well at an Ouistreham hotel.

Quite a story Kara!

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move." - Captain America

An entire army of Nazis couldn't stop him. What made those nurses think they stand a chance? :)
