"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Ehhhh... was that really necessary Sandwich?

I knew what this was going to be since the Brit meant it got picked up by the news over here, but I still didn't expect that picture. Of course, anyone who saw the Jokes thread from you and doesn't know might be in for a nasty surprise.

The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Oh, I'm sorry... did I miss something? Was it the Jews who entered a mosque in the predominantly Arab nation where they lived and slaughtered people praying there? No, couldn't be - Jews aren't really allowed to live in Arab nations much these days.

I do apologize for the picture however - you guys are right that it should have been behind a warning, or not all.

Did anyone catch the SNAFUs by CNN in their reporting of this event, by the way? This first headline below seemed to me like it probably just a simple mistake, but the other just seems to exemplify the twisted media lens used to portray Israel:

All I saw this morning was several killed in attack on a Synagogue (later in article about their nationalities. But they still didn't seem to care), two Palestinian men who were wielding guns, knives, axes... killed by police. Then the news showed Palestinians dancing and celebrating in the streets.

FUBAR, seriously FUBAR.

Do you have any proof to back up that statement? Or are you simply cherry-picking two pictures out of a rolling stream of headlines and using it to justify a narrative that doesn't actually exist?

A video of the whole segment would be great to unravel the answer to Karajorma's very pertinent question.

As it is, sounds like a cherry picked picture shared through the internet so to annoy and anger people against the "obvious" anti-semitism in liberal america.

It seems like a simple mistake. The interviewee repeatedly says synagog and the news anchors confirm it.

The funny thing is that the mistake "2 Palestinians, 3 Americans, 1 Brit, Killed in terror attack on synagogue" would actually garner more, not less sympathy for Israel. But the politicians want to paint it as the "Evil Western Media" distorting the truth to make them look bad.

...the mistake "2 Palestinians, 3 Americans, 1 Brit, Killed in terror attack on synagogue"...

Err, just to clarify, the whole "3 Americans, 2 Palestinians, and 1 Brit" portion is coined by me, referencing the popular pattern of jokes. The SNAFUs were what is shown in the image I posted. Wasn't sure from your post if you got confused by that or not.

Wasn't confused. I simply meant that news agencies mistakenly claiming 7 victims (everyone seems to forget the cop) rather than 5 victims and two dead scumbags isn't going to hurt Israel in any way, shape, size, or form.

Not unless they have some sort of ulterior motive.

Is there any word on who's behind this? Such scumbags seldom work alone, and there's a plenty of suspects in the region. I wouldn't put Hamas above this sort of thing, but at the same time (IIRC), it's been a while since they used this method of attack.

Ah, I see what you were referring to. My beef was mainly with the second headline in the image: "Police shot, killed two Palestinians". It's true and accurate, but also extremely misleading as it omits the core of the story. So while I can imagine the confusion between mosque and synagogue as being due to an honest mistake, it's hard to envision the omission of the core part of the story in the second headline to be a similarly honest mistake.

EDIT: BTW, when I originally posted this, the (Druze) cop hadn't succumbed to his wounds yet.

Have y'all been hearing of all the unrest in Jerusalem lately? Riots of course, but also many "unusual" terrorist attacks: 2 (or was it 3?) instances of  Palestinians ramming cars through crowds of people waiting at light rail stops, a Palestinian using his backhoe tractor thingy's backhoe arm to overturn a tour bus, stabbings, etc.

So while I can imagine the confusion between mosque and synagogue as being due to an honest mistake, it's hard to envision the omission of the core part of the story in the second headline to be a similarly honest mistake.

Given that "Police shot, killed 2 Palestinians" is a ****ing stupid headline on its own (Which police? Which country? What were they doing to get shot?) it seems pretty likely that the headline is part of a loop that goes something like

4 Dead in Attack on Jerusalem Synagogue.
Policeman injured in gunfight.
Police shot, killed 2 Palestinians.

If you watch the story for more than a minute it's quite clear what's going on. But if you take the picture out of context it can easily be turned into some sinister conspiracy theory.

Even if it's not part of a loop, then I'd ascribe it to the CNN headline writer being a ****ing idiot given how badly we've already seen them **** up, together with how they've managed to write a headline that says nothing useful, before I'd start making claims of a conspiracy.

If you can find the clip, I'd love to see it.

I'm at work right now, and just heard a flock of police vehicles rush up Jaffa street. Looked online to see if there's anything in the news, and found this: http://www.jpost.com/Breaking-News/Man-stabbed-on-Jerusalems-Yafo-Street-382420

I work on friggin' Yafo Street.

EDIT: In an article I was reading on just-eased gun restrictions here, I came across a short summary of the main terrorist attacks that have taken place here over the past few months:

Quote
On Tuesday, two Palestinian cousins armed with meat cleavers and a pistol killed four worshipers and a policeman at a Jerusalem synagogue. Security forces shot the terrorists dead.

Earlier this month two Israelis were killed when an Arab driver, 48-year-old Ibrahim al-Akary, plowed into pedestrians at a light rail station along the seam line between East and West Jerusalem. A Border Police officer, Jedan Assad, was killed in the attack. Seventeen-year-old yeshiva student Shalom Ba’adani was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds. Over a dozen others were also injured in the attack.

In a separate incident on November 10, 26-year-old Dalia Lemkus was run over and then stabbed to death by a Palestinian assailant while waiting at a bus stop in the West Bank. An IDF soldier was stabbed to death by a Palestinian suspect in a separate incident the same day in Tel Aviv.

On October 29 East Jerusalem resident Mu’taz Hijazi attempted to assassinate Temple Mount activist Rabbi Yehudah Glick in a shooting attack in Jerusalem. Glick, who campaigns for Jewish prayer rights on the Temple Mount, was critically injured by close-range gunshots, but is gradually recovering.

On October 22, Abdelrahman Al-Shaludi drove his car into a Jerusalem Light Rail station, killing three-month-old Israeli-American Chaya Zissel Braun and Karen Yemima Muscara, 22, of Ecuador. Seven other people were also injured. Shaludi was shot by police as he tried to flee the scene and later died of his wounds.

His family’s home was demolished Wednesday morning, in a punitive measure okayed by Israel’s leadership.

On August 4, a Palestinian man rammed a tractor into a bus, killing a pedestrian, Avraham Walz, 29.

It sounds like another one of those "college kids are stupid" trolls that FOX is so fond of. Creative editing and a large enough sample size to have ANY shot where people don't react are enough to convince a lot of people that an entire college campus is sympathetic to a dangerous cause, or just outright stupid.
