Terror attack in Denmark
Quote
Denmark is on high alert after a gunman in Copenhagen killed one person and injured three others at a debate on blasphemy and free speech attended by a controversial Swedish cartoonist.

Several dozen shots were fired at the seminar and a manhunt is now under way.

Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt described it as a "politically motivated" act of terrorism.

Cartoonist Lars Vilks, who has faced death threats over his caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, was unhurt.

Police initially believed there had been two suspects, but later said they were searching for a lone gunman.

They released a photograph showing the alleged attacker apparently wearing a purple balaclava and thick puffer jacket.

Like the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard -- the man responsible for one of the 12 drawings published by the newspaper Jyllandsposten, the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks has been on Al-Qaeda's hit-list for quite a while. This is, however, the first time an attack has materialized, though terror plots against him have previously been foiled by the police. Kurt Westergaard, however, was attacked long before his Swedish counterpart when a Somali Al-Shabab hitman broke into his house with an axe. He avoided death in that case thanks to a panic room installed in his house. He is responsible for the iconic picture of Muhammed with a bomb on his turban that was published by Jyllandsposten.

I fear this will be used by politicians to push for increased draconian security measures like increased surveillance. Indeed, this is what seems to happen whenever a Western country is attacked is Islamic terrorists.

At least this individual now appears to have been brought to justice.

I wonder where he came from. His target was very well known, so he could have been from any group out there, or even acting by himself. Probably not ISIS, or we'd have heard about it by now, I think. They love publicity.
