Really, I don't know who's more of an idiot here. That guy or those 400 people who believed him. Good riddance, though. I propose a collective Darwin Award for the group, because they just demonstrated that they'd be unsuitable for reproduction anyway. I bet if he told them to jump off a bridge, they'd do that, too. That wouldn't exactly be anything new for established religions, but this guy is a self-appointed guru/movie star. If I went around telling people to cut their balls off to speak to God, I'd end up in a psych ward. This guy did pretty much that, only that he's been preaching things for a while before to get people used to this. It's not right to exploit peoples' gullibility, but I think that fewer would do this if people weren't so gullible in first place.
Some religions have been doing it to women for centuries unfortunately.
Not only to women. Ritual mutilation and castration is not unheard of for either gender. The mainstream religions are mostly doing away with it (except Judaism, which maintains circumsition for men), but tribal religons in Africa, for example, can still have people doing pretty grotesque stuff to themselves. Then again, those date back generations. This guy's cult does not, but apparently doesn't stop people for falling for it.
