Starfighter Inc (on kickstarter) - Lead designer worked on X-Wing series
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/impellerstudios/starfighter-inc

Anyone seen this yet? Seems like crowdsourced space sims are becoming quite common these days. However, with the design and story lead from the X-Wing series as a part of this team does sweeten the deal. I'm not certain how I feel about "World of tanks meets Counterstrike in space" though.

Eh what the heck, went ahead and backed it for $15.

Call me when it includes a singleplayer component. Couldn't care less for another multiplayer shooter, space or not. They have the guy who did X-Wing's story, so it'd be smart to let him write an actual story...

Seconded. I was considering backing this until I saw it was multiplayer only. Quickly lost interest after that.

Oh, you mean the worst game in the series?

Eh, I feel like a lot of that was due to modems not being able to keep up and provide a lag free experience. I remember having a good time LANning it, though.

Re: Starfighter Inc (on kickstarter) - Lead designer worked on X-Wing series
It's somewhat nice to see fighter sims coming out of the woodwork on kickstarter.  Maybe it will demonstrate an audience to bigger studios and such, and maybe we might have a decent selection of joysticks again between super expensive and absolute crap.

Still, I am getting extremely tired of seeing kickstarter exclusive EVERYTHING and paid alpha/beta access.
Also, more single player games would be nice.  As enjoyable as multiplayer can be, sometimes I don't want to jump into a snake pit to fly and I enjoy a good story.

absolute crap.

They call it the Logitech "Wingman" because when you use it you will die as fast as Beta 4 in FreeSpace2.

Those stretch goals are unrealistic and asinine really

GOGO 17 Million!

Quote from: stretch goal description
If you’re wondering why the single player campaigns are so expensive, think about the last Call of Duty, Mass Effect or Halo game you played. Those games cost upwards of $50,000,000 to make (on the cheap side), because it takes a large group of people working for a long time to deliver something of that quality.

Huh, I wonder how much it cost to make Blue Planet?

Oh, right. Even if the BP team were getting paid a standard wage for their work, it wouldn't have been a fraction of this.

Wow, way to make a comparison with three games that aren't space sims.

If they want to compare to mass effect,  they better give us a leveling system for our wingman and side quests.

For the other two most of that money was not spent on the campaign

Re: Starfighter Inc (on kickstarter) - Lead designer worked on X-Wing series
It occurs to me, that a number of kickstarters fail simply due to being overly ambitious.

Re: Starfighter Inc (on kickstarter) - Lead designer worked on X-Wing series
There's ambitious, and there's disorganized. This feels like the latter to me. I don't like video pitches so I ignored that, but what I read from the KS page didn't particularly convince me.

Re: Starfighter Inc (on kickstarter) - Lead designer worked on X-Wing series
The fact that (potentially) unprepared projects are jumping on the Space Sim revival bandwagon has a silver lining--it is a clear indicator that the bandwagon is durable, and moving fast enough, to attract and support (potential) freeloaders.

This is a good sign!
