So I recently built a decent computer, spending around 900 euros on it, and have been wondering why I did so, until I realized that Star Citizen. As I spent pretty much on internals, I went cheapish on the rest, and so I bought myself a Tracer keyboard. Until now I have been wondering how can one botch up a goddamn keyboard, but Tracer taught me that more than I ever wanted to know. So now that I've spared some cash again, I desire to get something, which doesn't require literally mashing the buttons, which frequently causes me to skip a lot of letters. I don't want to stack up on terrible keyboards until I find something ok, or spend more than needed on it, so I decided to make a topic to get some recommendations.

My new keyboard requirements are:
-low profile
-works smooth like the laptop keyboards [which probably implies a membrane keyboard]
-backlight, as I often stay up late
-no need to get any more fancy than that, so still cheaper than fancier (but requirements are still requirements)

Do you guys know anything that could fit my needs?
Oh guys, use that [ url ][ img ][ /img ][ /url ] :/

You might check out the Logitech K740.
Maybe someday God will give you a little pink toaster of your own.

I have a Razer.... deathstalker? I forget the name, but it's the cheapest backlit model they have.  I got it for $40 on sale, I think they go for $60 or so retail.  It has chiclet keys as seems to be the normal these days on laptops.  I wasn't sure how I would like that, but works just fine for gaming for me.  The only thing I don't like is that the palm rest is fixed so it takes up more room than it needs to.
I like to stare at the sun.

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder X4. Not exactly the lowest of profiles, but the feedback is good. And it can handle 28 simultaneous key presses, which is nice if you rage smash as often as I do. And a red backlight! So much easier on the eyes than blue. Blue LED lights feel like they're actually burning through my retinas.

I have 2 keyboards - a Sidewinder X4 and a Razer Blackwidow ultimate. I use the ultimate for my gaming PC, and the sidewinder on my workstation (CAD, programming, etc). I like them both and would recommend either. Actually picked up the ultimate as a refurb for just $60 and it has worked great

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder X4.

Me too, although I'm not entirely happy with it. I've had it for almost 3 years and the coating on the S key has worn away so much that with the backlight on, there's just a big red splotch where the S used to be, and a few other keys show some wear too. Not that I mind that, but I guess someone might. There's also the issue with how it's less wide than a regular full keyboard, which took me a long time to get used to. My biggest issue however is the placement of alt gr; using it (with your right hand as a modifier key) is often incredibly awkward due to the way it's pushed off so far to the right (for no reason at all). I don't know what they were thinking with that one.

Otherwise it's great, although I've actually never bothered to use the macro keys for anything. I thought I would, but after 3 years I still haven't. Keys feel as good as I might want them to, the backlight is nice in the dark, there's volume keys and a shortcut button for windows calculator, which surprisingly enough I've found convenient.

I have a Perrix PX-1100 in a UK layout.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perixx-PX-1100-Backlit-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B00GMIYS0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431467814&sr=8-1&keywords=uk+perrix+gaming+keyboard

Not all the bells and whistles of higher spec keyboards, but it does me nicely. More importantly for me, it has adjustable backlit keys which are also nice and chunky! Great value for money. Think I've had this one for about 6 months now!
I do not feel... I think!

I ended up buying Gigabyte Force K7 and I am dissapointed again. It isn't really low profile keyboard. Keys go quite deep down, in fact so deep, that they go lower than the case, which is really annoying with keys like ctrl. Well. Crap. Whatever.
Oh guys, use that [ url ][ img ][ /img ][ /url ] :/

Sorry.. I missed the low profile requirement in your post. Personally, I don't like low profile as I tend to be a bit more heavy handed on my keyboard. However, I did use to have this:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-Elight-Illuminated-Keyboard-UK-Layout/dp/B004QF084I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432668417&sr=8-1&keywords=trust+backlit+keyboard

It actually felt really nice to type on and was a good little keyboard, but unfortunately,  a couple of the keys ended up coming loose but it did have some welly! I think it lasted me for about a year to a year and a half!

Edit:- The one I had was wired. I would not touch a wireless keyboard with a 40ft barge pole!
