LOL - I know, but I'm not going to bother texturing them in Rhino when it only converts to LWO at the most basic level.... Once Snipes gets the conversion done I'll put up som more pics - unless y'all have a specific angle on her that you want to see...?

That depends... First off, the conversion needs to be completed.

After that comes the balancing, as I don't plan on having this be a super-ship... it IS a carrier, after all...

Third, there's the possibility that it might be used in a certain campaign, and I'd have to discuss with the developers whether they would prefer it to be held back until the campaign is released or what.

Sooo... in three short words: I don't know.   But I WILL keep y'all updated...

A short update here: the GVCa Amaunet has exactly 500 polys - without the turrets.

A 500 poly count for a capship is really low, nice job. =)

Wow - thanx for the complements, both of you!

I had to design each and every poly by hand, cause in Rhino that's the best way to do things...

You have great control, this way, but damn it makes the process of doing a model a looooooong work...

Actually, if you're making a model with the goal of having it compose of flat poly's, it's not hard at all - you just need to use all the object snaps and poly definition tools.... no problemo!

Ewww... unnessicarily complicated... in Rhino all you do is define visually where the 3 or 4 points of the poly are. It creates the poly, and then you can snap the cursor to the vertices (they're called "ends" in Rhino) so that your next poly has a matching edge. So on and so forth...

Eh? I guess you mean in the game itself, and not something else...

I've been toying around with a number of ideas, mainly with different weapon loadouts, and all of course revolving around the Amaunet being a fighter/bomber carrier:

1) Giving it an unusual number of missile turrets. Primarily anti-fighter missiles, but also perhaps a few Treb and Stiletto II launchers for taking out capship subsystems and bombers.

2) Loading it with an unusual number (5-7) of heavy beam weapons - mainly shorter range beams, such as the LTerSlash, with perhaps one regular- or even long-range beam. In this instance, and if the ship is used in a campaign, it might be better to create a custom beam for this purpose - a beam with a range of around 2000. Either way, these short-range beams would be primarily for discouraging enemy capital ships from entering into AAA range of the carrier, so that the fighters can launch relatively safely.

3) Arming it with only one kind of beam weapon - AAA. This would give it about 15 AAA beams,   which could be justified as far as power consumption goes by the complete lack of heavy beams. However, this kind of configuration would make it a terribly unbalanced ship to fight against. I'm not even sure that designating all the AAA beams to be the low-accuracy kind would balance things.

Anyway, those are the main ideas that I'm considering for it at this point. I guess that number 1 could be integrated with either of the other ideas... If anybody has a (reasonable) suggestion, suggest away!

I'm more in favour of the first one. with the number two, if a capship enters in beam range, it's fried (quite weird for a carrier to be deadlier than a destroyer in short range), and the 3rd options makes it kinda invulnerable to bombers...

I'd choose the first one as well, for the same reasons.

But I would mass a heavy concentration of AAAf beams (not flak) around the launch bays to deter any 'campers' just waiting to get easy kills on fighters as they're being launched. Flak would hit friendly fighters as well, so that's out. And missiles have shockwaves.

Looking at the model, it seems you pretty much have this covered, though

Well, fried isn't quite the right word - the LTerSlash is pretty weak - around one tenth the damage per minute of the Mjolnir beam, plus when you take into account that it's a slash beam, that damage rating gets lowered to 60% or so. Figure 6 LTerSlash beams, with a max of 3 able to focus on the same ship at any given time... you get an end result of around 20-25% the damage of a single Mjolnir beam.

Hmmmm... when I look at it that way, maybe the beams should be a bit stronger then the LTerSlash... :hmmm:
