source for "free" mech models 3ds max

they have a "free" account option. You have to upload stuff to gain credits then you can use those credits to download the "free" stuff. Paid membership is very pricy. They do have a few nice mechs in a variety of formats.

Re: source for "free" mech models 3ds max
some "out of the box" thinking

Take a  Robotech mech designed for Poser, import into Daz 3D (free edition), export into 3ds (for 3ds Max) load into 3ds Max and you have the start of a new mech. If anyone tries it, let me know how it comes out

Some models can be found here

Expanding on the "out of box" thinking. Here is what I have tried so far:

Step 1: I downloaded the Defender  mech from http://vanishingpoint.biz/freestuff.asp?ClassificationID=29
and un-zipped the file

step 2 opened up Daz 3d Studio (free at daz3d.com) and imported Defender.cr2 from the file location defender\Runtime\Libraries\character\VP

Step 3 Export as obj file

Step 4 Import into 3ds Max 7. It is now ready to be worked on to create a mech for MCO

Keep in mind though that in the long run the majority of the work is in the animations and textures, not the model. These are low-poly models and with some practice you should be able to churn out models relatively quickly.

All of these models are probably too high poly to use in game. Trust me, a few years ago, I was trying very hard to push the envelope on mech models with MC Omni. Magic said the engine couldn't cope with what I wanted to do. Keep your models under 2-3k in quads.
