i think it rocks, i usually hate things that are asymetric in nature.  Other times they have to grow on me.  i liked this one right off.

Megadude asked for opinions, so I don't understand why Demon442 got given such a hard time for giving his. For the record it's an opinion I happen to agree with. The ship is horrible!

maybe because some constructive criticism would have gotten the point across, and helped to improve the model.  But that's just my opinion.

When you have no artistic flair yourself finding someone to paint your ship for you is a tough cookie. If you can uv map the ship yourself, that helps. It still won't guarantee you help though.
Be warned: This site's admins stole 100s of hours of my work. They will do it to you.

well it isnt SO difficult
more than talent you will need
1-photoshop:p
2-a little knowledge of the program (less than you can expect)
3-a lot of time and patience:)

btw surely having an already unwrapped model helps A LOT

Well yes, that's my point. If you supply a model pre uv mapped then painting it simply becomes a Paint Shop Pro job. He's more likely to find someone willing and able to do that.

Bear in mind though. When it comes to artistic flair you either have it or you don't. Practice and understanding help, but only so much. When you know that no matter how long you take or how hard you try the results are going to look mediocre at best, that time is better spent finding someone to do a decent job.

eheh i see the point, and surely having a certain .. "forma mentis" is a strong element, but with computer graphic you don't need the..uh..mind-hand coordination needed when you draw with a pencil and this reduce a lot the skill requirements...obviously you have to know, to "see" the result you want to obtain (and that-in my experience- you will never obtain...maybe it will be better or worse, but it will be always different), and secondary you have to distiguish when yor result is bad or good, but even if it isn't all, they are the most important points, usually enought to make something decent, and there isn't much more...often the lower limit are instead the knowedge of the programs "tricks"... well as soon as i will begin the awing textures i'll take some screenshots and i'll try to make a little fast tutorial to explain exactly what i mean:)

To a degree, I agree.  However, I found making meshes last year incredibly tough.  So tough that I quit for a whole year.  It was only when I found found this site again by accident that my interest was revived.  I started going at it in truespace and voila!  It became easy and I don't even have to use booleans anymore.  I can create ships from a single object.  So, I'm trying to say u don't have to be born with it; u can develope it.

Obviously you've had a talent for 3D modelling all along and Truespace has been holding you back. Same happened to me. Truespace brick walled me for months. Eventually I got used to it and was able to get the results out of it I wanted.

Consider though... I've tried plenty of times to paint up my ships and I know Paint Shop Pro pretty well. Yet the results always suck. Some people just don't have a natural inclination towards 2D art.

PSP isn't great for maps, though - it's shading for airbrushes doesn't really come off as well as with Photoshop, and this is a pretty big nail in it's coffin.

I'll telly ou what, though...you can be a born natural at modelling, but you'll always have something left to learn......

So...which is the most user-friendly and powerful paint program.  I tried paint shop pro a few weeks ago and it wasn't too intuitive to use.

So list your favorite paint programs and the reasons why u like it.

as said before photoshop is far the best, althought the most difficult to use, mainly for 2 resons (if you just want to make textures)
1: it has (6.0 or higher) vectors, that are resolution indipendent, and that you can use AS layer masks or that you can cover WITH layer masks, and that are an extremely powerful tool if you want to make geometric paint (panels, wires, mech elements, text, paint stripes and so long)
2: the blending options that can be easily activate/deactivate (special effects that you can apply to a layer, bump mapping it, filling with solid colors, gradients, patterns, setting shadows, satin and other stuff in a lot of ways...i know that almost every program can do that...photoshop just do it better in an easyer way)
