How to uninstall / clean re-install FSO?
Hi,

I just bought FS2 through Steam and wanted to install FSO. Not realizing how big all those mods are (and how slow the servers), I went with a complete installation. I quickly realized that's not gonna work out anytime soon, so I cancelled the installation.

Now, however, anytime I start the installer, all the mods are already checked with grey ticks that I cannot change, and I have no way to only install the parts that I want. Here's what I did to 'reset' the FSO installer:

1. Uninstall FS2 through Steam
2. Delete the FS2 folder entirely thereafter
3. Delete the downloaded FSO installer jar and delete the 'logs' folder it created
4. Reboot the computer

But all of that still gives me all the mods checked with grey tickmarks. How can I properly re-install FSO cleanly? And where does the FSO installer keep this information/files?

PS: Semi-unrelated, is it necessary to copy the game to the default C:\ folder or does it work within the steamapps subfolder?

Thanks!

Re: How to uninstall / clean re-install FSO?
The FSO Installer is not part of FS2, and stores its information separately.  If you go into your user folder (such as C:\Users\rxzlmn) and delete the fsoinstaller.properties file you find there, it will reset the checkboxes.

The game will work in either the default C:\Games\FreeSpace2 folder or the steamapps folder.  But it's important to remember which folder you use and keep it consistent.  Don't install the game in one location and then install the mods in the other location, or else you won't be able to find the mods in the game.

Thanks, that indeed solved it. I also deleted a bunch of stuff that was created by the installer in User/username/AppData/Local/Temp.

Now I'll just wait for the files to download :)
