Max Particle test....

I was sort of considering ripping off the FS1 movie.... it's where I got the whole death black scary ships ideas for the nightmares from (cos Shivans are red, really)... this is just the game model w/ a damage skin, though - I'll probably deform the geometry if I push ahead.  Or just try and get Darkage to do it :devilidea

Anyways, it's just a test with the particles.... i'm thinking of halfing the coutn fo each spray, and inserting a duplicate with a different colour (more variety).... not sure what else to do, though.  Oh, and neither my static illumination map nor my special flickery animate dlightmap work particularly well (d'oh!).

Anyways, thoughts?

It's... strange. :doubt:

Doesn't look too good in a screenshot (or render), but in motion it maybe would look good.

Methinks it's that there are too many particles in too dense an area, and the angle may be a bit dodgy for a fast moving vehicle.

Needs an edge falloff. And more blur on the particles. And don't use them all over the place.

The paricles need to glow and have a fire like color, and they look just weird:) I can do a few, when i get totaly sober again and get rid off this damn headache. :)

mmh, yeah, you can add glow to the particles ( give an ID to the material you apply, then you add the glow in the video post ), or you can go for the quick way: set your particles to planar, create a map that looks like a circular cloud , remove all the reflections/refractions/soften ref. parameters ( 0.0 ), use the same map as opacity ( of course your map has to have a black BG ), set the map to "face", assign to the particle generator, that should do it ( that's how I made my missile trails in my sabre render -see my render section at HLP ).

Use supersprays.

give them variable speed, tumble and object motion inheritance.

also give them a very small grow value and a long fade value.

Make sure the glow isn't too sensitive otherwise you'll get nasty flickering effects.

Yes. Smoke in space. Depends of what they're using for fuel but there'd most likely be smoke.

Ok, I suppose you're right then. Looks like I've been watching too much sci-fi.
