The Essence of Vasudan Design
I know this was discussed somewhere, but the question shall arise once more.  What is the Essence of Vasudan Design?

I'm told that Vasudan ships are hard to design for a variety of reasons.  Could some more experienced modellers post tips and advice on designing Vasudan ships.

well, i'm not all that experienced, but the vasudans seem to design their ships artisticly. many curves with sharp corners in places. kinda like the ship was grown. (sort of :) )

Look at the Sobek and the Hatshepsut. These are modern Vasudan ships - note the almost organic feel of the tiles used, and the rounded main bodies on the ships. Also, Vasudans tend to build there ships along the x-z axis, and use very little y (Compare Aten-Fenris, Aeolus to mentu, Hecate to Hat. Basically a flat, sprawling design). Also, a few sharp points in places, but always at larger angles than shivans. Sweeping curves are also good.

I'll add to that. Some Vasudan ships are based on animals of Vasuda Prime. I think the Tech Room description of the Hatshepsut or the Sobek mention it. I try to always incorporate a bit of reptilian or amphibian feel in the lines of the hull.

The Tauret is based on some vasudan animal - can't think of the name atm.

I think the typhon does have a neck. It just has two outward pointy prongs instead of a head. Kinda like Mr. Spock. ;) :D

There seem to be two major types of Vasudan texture designs. One is the scaly light brown one people already mentioned, and then there is the dark brown type (sometimes with a few blue lights) as well. For the most part, it seems that Sahr corporation's ships are always the darker kind (Thoth, Tauret, etc.) while Akheton and Mekhu manufacture the lighter ones.

Vasudan design to me is based on a kind of... living principle. A ship deisgn begins at one part and "grows" into its final shape, with natural-looking curves. The best comparison would be like some of the ancient races in Babylon 5 I think.

Vasudan ships are basically curved....whereas Terran stuff is more chunky and industrial, Vasudans tend to be elegant, curved and artistic.... ignoring the Fs1 stuff - which was a bit closer to Terran design.

I tend to draw inspriation from the shapes of flowers - the bud - for any curved ships... also jellyfish or similar marine animals (bar the colour) are pretty useful.  The toher thing I've tried is to look at Egyptian artwork - burial masks, hyroglyphics, etc for basic shapes.  When it comes to fighters, I mostly look at the V concept art for inspiration, or - if it's suppossed to be inspired by a Vasudan land animal - try to actually create a reasonable looking animal and then build from that.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill
