The Aether Dockyard: Ships, and a Game, Under Construction
Hey all, and Merry Christmas!

If you're bored with kicking Star Citizen while it's down, may I suggest an alternative engagement?

Welcome to the Aether Dockyard! Here are WiP ship designs from a steam-diesel-punk space sim I'm making. Enjoy and/or critique.

I may release FS-compatible versions of some of these eventually, if there is any demand for them.

The main character's fighter. Jack-of-all-trades. Kitbashed out of spare scrap parts.

Another player fighter. Custom-designed as a racing craft, for a speed-demon fashion heiress.

Generic civilian light plane/fighter. Also used by the rebel antagonist faction.

Generic civilian freighter. The tail extensions are for cargo containers.
"We have now reached the point where every goon with a grievance, every bitter bigot, merely has to place the prefix, 'I know this is not politically correct, but...' in front of the usual string of insults in order to be not just safe from criticism, but actually a card, a lad, even a hero. Conversely, to talk about poverty and inequality, to draw attention to the reality that discrimination and injustice are still facts of life, is to commit the sin of political correctness. Anti-PC has become the latest cover for creeps. It is a godsend for every curmudgeon and crank, from fascists to the merely smug."

Looking nice. What kind of game are we talking about, mission-centric space shooter, or something more open-world/procedural?

Also, since this is obviously not intended for FSO, what engine are you using? Custom-made, UE4, Unity?
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Kinda a bit of both. I'm thinking that the first game in the series will be a kind of arcade-y shooter with procedural levels. The next game in the series will be more story-driven with a linear path. It's complicated.

Unity. Unity is, AFAIK, the easiest game-making engine out there, with a wide library of resources. It reduces making a functional indie game from "effectively impossible for a newb" to merely "lengthy, confusing, and hair-pullingly difficult."

I'd love to talk more about it. But without fancy screenshots or other graphical stuff, there's not much to show off yet. It's still quite early in dev.

...Thanks for reminding me. I'm quite creatively ADD. Just logged back onto #bp-dev, if anyone wants to talk about it.

The enemy faction's generic fighter.

If it's not too late to switch, you should consider UE4. It's also free, cross-platform, and from what I heard it's much more powerful than Unity.

The local Nephilim/Taurvi equivalent. Will actually try to dodge your fire while on bombing runs.

It's pretty obvious which FreeSpace missile this missile was vaguely inspired by.

Hey, is this a good place to post non-FS models? Or should these go somewhere else, if they belong on HLP at all?

Re: The Aether Dockyard: Ships, and a Game, Under Construction
For anyone who's interested, here's more ships. Constructive criticism appreciated!

This is the third main character's ship. It's supposed to be kinda clunky, being made by someone who likes sticking extra features on without regard for aesthetics. The gun on its back is designed to be deployed in Siege Mode; it deploys the two anchors to brace itself before firing.

These are capships from the Army of the Rising. They are the rebel faction who are the main antagonists.

The Rising's Cretheus-equivalent gunboat.

The Torchbearer-class destroyer quickly closes to point-blank and fires torpedo salvoes at mission-critical allied capships.

This light fleet carrier was converted from a luxury liner.
