I'm curious to see what the BP community thinks of this game. I started playing a few weeks ago and I'm totally hooked. Feel free to ignore or move/delete if it's not appropriate here.

This topic might fit better in general discussion but I'm not a moderator.

I often keep an eye of up and coming space sims but I'm always weary as quite a lot of them tend to be a bit lack luster. With fractured space I was even more put off by it being in early access and in game currency (from what I can tell), so I'd quite like to here what you think of it as someone who clearly enjoys freespace and blue planet like myself to give me a better understanding of the game and help me decide whether to buy it or not.

I played the game but all I could think about was how to get those ships into freespace.

What the hell, I find this REALLY annoying, its not even BP Subsection, what, BP community is superior nobility or something ? The whole webpage is NOT composed of BP community ONLY, nor its BP webpage only.

Regardless, to the main topic.

Fractured Space, I actually got the key for free from DEVs, because I've played on BETA . Game is pretty much MOBA style, 2 teams, 5 players each.

gameplay is really enjoyable though, massive spaceships, fast paces action, many models, roles, and tactics to use - I would gladly purchase the game if I would not own it already.

FWIW, this was originally posted to the BP subforum and shifted out to gaming after the fact by a mod. So originally the post made more sense.

I love this game when it works but holy hell is it definitely still an alpha. Connection problems and bad lag up the wazoo, not to mention I inherently hate matchmaking on PC games.

That said, it's still tons of fun and I like to play it while blasting combat music from BSG. I play there under my steam/other places handle 'Admiral Bosch' which I don't use here since I felt it would be gratuitous, so if any of y'all see me, give me a shout!
Wh00t!? Vinyl? Is it like an I-pod 2 or something?

I did end up buying the game and I'm loving it. I agreed with ^ it is in alpha but when it works (which is about 80% of the time) it is really fun to play. I play under the name Rancid Rance, I'll keep an eye out for you Bosch.

Have they added another map yet?

Techincally they have. There's a new game mode called 'Frontline' which is quite fun and it takes place on a new map. IIRC the devs said they want to perfect the current gameplay before they add addition maps, which I think makes a lot of sense.

...but if they're selling ships, and have been in development for over a year...what makes for "perfected gameplay" so that they can make another map?

Sorry if I'm being overly cynical, I just got done reading more about Star Citizen.

I just to clarify a point you made in case you were unaware of how the premium ships work. The 2 ships they sold (of which only 1 is buyable atm I think) both can be unlocked normally in the game though playing and if you do unlock them you get more loadout options and skins for them. Since all the ships are designed to fit certain roles as opposed to one being better than the other, by buying ships all you are doing is skipping the time spent getting the XP and Credits to unlock them. I've seen people who've bought these ships lose constantly to better skilled players. The main purpose of selling these ships, along with skins, xp and credits boosts is to keep a steady cash flow so they can develop the game, on release it will be free2play, with it's income coming from skins and potentially xp and credits boosts (I'm not sure on the latter).

I'm not the devs so I don't know their timeline and I only got into the game very recently, but to me it makes sense to make the gameplay, ships and servers all work and then to add maps last that work around these, rather than the other way around. Earlier this month they released a patch that tweaked various ships for balancing, I think this is what they mean by perfected gameplay, making sure it's all balanced. Also I believe they plan on releasing a update (different from a patch as it adds content, they stressed this fact) that would allow private groups and various other features, so the game is still being made.

PS: Just found this on the forms saying they planned to add "New lane maps for Conquest". I'm not sure if that means a whole new map or not but we'll see soon enough.

Premium ships also get a bonus to credits and manufacturer XP ; this helps a lot now that the requirement to get a new ship a so much highter since the january reset/free weekend.
Last year you could lay your hands on almost any ship in a couple of games, regardless of tech tree (which could be bypassed at the time).
Anyway, what do you guys thinks about the balance changes that occurred since the last 2 month?
I'm a little disgruntled with the raider not being as powerfull as it once was up close. I still haven't managed to understand its new tactical niche.

I don't have the raider but the other balances seem good to me from the games I've played. I still feel like people are getting used to the Basilisk and it's uses whereas the Guardian seems like people either haven't found how to use it or it needs a redesign. I just really hope the Devs can get matchmaking working again as the drafting system seemed good and it must suck to have a great game limited by server issues.
