Problem with 3.7.4 (RC1 AVX) executable
Decided to reinstall Freespace 2 today and I was introduced to FS2 Open, so I am still totally new to this. I have Windows Vista Ultimate. I used the installer at fsoinstaller.com, installed to C:\Games and tried Launcher and wxLauncher but I'm getting the same error. When I select 3.7.4 (RC1 AVX) executable from the drop down, it gives me a crash message ("Freespace 2 Open has stopped working") and wxLauncher says the executable "did not generate a flag file." Like I said, I'm very new to this, and I'm not entirely sure WHICH executable I should be running, but 3.7.4 (RC1 AVX) seems like the one I should go with? Right now, I'd just like to play the FS2 campaign with all the graphical updates and whatever else you wonderful people have worked on for this game.

Re: Problem with 3.7.4 (RC1 AVX) executable
:welcome:

First off, I recommend you try using 3.7.4 RC2, since it's the most up-to-date official build which has some bugfixes.  Secondly, have you tried using the standard build (labeled with SSE2)?  AVX is an instruction set on fairly modern processors, and if you're running FS2 Open on a Vista machine, your processor may be too old to be able to run that instruction set.  The SSE2 set is supported by much older processors, so that would definitely be the safest option.

Re: Problem with 3.7.4 (RC1 AVX) executable
The 3.7.4 RC1 SSE2 worked, I've been playing using that executable for the past few hours. Now, I've installed and run 3.7.4 RC2 and everything seems to be working. Has the fsoinstaller not been updated to download 3.7.4 RC2 yet? If you're curious, my computer's processor is an AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T (6 CPUs), ~3.2GHz. Not sure if that's why the AVX wasn't working. I also tried running as Administrator and turning off User Account Control, but the error persisted. Anyway, I'll use 3.7.4 RC2 from now on. Thanks for your help!

Has the fsoinstaller not been updated to download 3.7.4 RC2 yet?

I just checked and it hasn't been updated, need to poke someone about that :)

That CPU is not AVX capable (I know this for certain because it was the exact same model of CPU I had before this one).

I've mentioned it before, but apparently nothing was done about it. Who has write access to http://scp.indiegames.us/scp_files.txt?
