A friend of mine has windows xp, and although the game instals, he can't get his joystick to show up in the launcher or the game.  I had this problem as well, but since i didn't like xp anyway, it was just another reason to uninstal it.

Any advice you could give me to help him out would be great.  The compatibility is already set to 98.

Did he install the software? And add the game controller to the computer's list? Is he using a USB hub? Sometimes the computer doesn't recognize the joystick when its on a USB hub. other than that, I suggest he read the troubleshooting part of the instruction book. That always gets me by.

That's right! Windows Xp is completely different than Win 98, a completely different set of problems they mean!

I can only say be patient, contunial tweaking it and pray. If you got it working under xp before chances are it will work again. If not...

For example my old 4yr old computer had min probs with XP (I upgraded from 98).

But my NEW comp came with a fresh factory copy installed and the keyboard that comes with it half the time on startup does not get recognised (all the controls are dead and no lights light up) I simply pull the usb cord out and stick it back in, problem solved)
Note I have 3 hubs and many devices, win xp still has probs with hubs. If usb I suggest you plug you critical stuff directly into the main usb ports avoid hubs. Like my keyboard (and I never used it with a hub!)... Hope that helps?
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

this happened to me a while ago running fs1 on my win98 machine. Basically, I just spammed the "detect joystick" button 40 or 50 times, and then it suddenly showed up.

But then again god hates me, and that was probably just unique to my situation.

If the joystick is plugged into the sound card, try uninstalling all drivers for the soundcard and gameport, make sure the joystick is plugged in, then restart winxp. winxp will detect the "new" hardware, and install drivers for it. Sometimes if the drivers were installed while nothing was in the game port, then some programs wont detect the port even exists.
