Looking for volunteers for the upcoming "Devil and the Deep Blue" campaign
I am in the process of scripting a new campaign with a storyline that answers the question of why the Shivans caused the Capella Supernova, why the Shivans eradicated the Ancients after allowing them centuries to build up their empire rather than exterminating them right away and why the Shivans feel compelled to eradicate all subspace-capable life in the Universe.

I'm afraid I can publicly reveal nothing further of the plot of "DatDB" at this time. However, if you decide to volunteer to help me design my campaign, I'll reveal parts of the plot as necessary for you to get the bigger picture.

I already revealed the whole plot to Lonestar (the creator of FRED Zone, for those of you who don't know him) and he was greatly impressed with my plot draft.

I am looking for people profficient with any of the following:

1. FRED mission designing

2. FS modding (either model or weapons; I need at least one expert of each)

3. 2d and/or 3d animations (I am going to need people able to create new multi-frame ANI files)

If you are willing to volunteer, please reply here and let me know if you're interested. Also PM me with your e-mail addy to I can contact you privately. Once that is done, I will provide you with any tools you need to complete your task (ship and weapon mods, mission scripts, etc.)

Thank you for your cooperation.

Seeing that no one around here has "hired" me for anything so far, I'd like to volunteer. I've been put on hold for many things now, so I hope I can start early. I'd like to help with mission designing. My e-mail is in my profile :blah:

EDIT: Actually no...I might not be willing to work, I have some ideas for my own campaign. Seeing that no one can put my skillz to use, I think I'll have to do things myself if I'm gonna get anywhere

You know im in. Ive read this massive storyline and huge outlook of the entire campaign and must say out of the many ive played and seen (most of which never got through the gate), this is by far the closest thing to an actual sequel that will make sense of the whole universe.

Volition should of had you in the storyline area, you might of done them some good.

There are no other campaigns people, with the right help and alot of work this can and will be the best campaign ever.

I can help you with modelling fighters/bombers, and make you weapons :)

Yeah, I know you were waiting for a very nice sig, in which I was quoting some very famous scientist or philosopher... guess what?!? I wont indulge you...

Why, you ask? What, do I look like a Shivan to you?!?

Lone, thanks for replying here. :)

Raven, I knew you were working on Reciprocity, so I didn't expect to see you reply, but I'm glad you did. In fact, so far as DatDB is scripted now, we're going to be using a lot of the same weapon mods that you made for Reciprocity. As I'm sure you know, when Aldo released his preciprocity.vp file publicly it contained all the weapon tables and mods along with everything else. A lot of this stuff impressed me enough to include in my campaign.

It's like the old adage says: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Of course, I like to add my own bit of wisdom to that: If it works, don't break it! :p  :D

Or did I just say the same thing...? Whatever, back on topic: we've got Lone who has agreed to make a teaser mpeg movie for DatDB. Lone is working on it, but it will be a while before we can see a viewable product (maybe a month or more). No biggie, Lone can take as much time as he needs. Once the movie is done, we'll see what we can do about posting it here on HLP. A website is also in the works; more on that later.

Raven, I'll e-mail you later today to let you know what's going on with DatDB, plotwise and otherwise. Welcome aboard!

Since this project is still in the very early stages (i've got half a campaign script, a gleam in my eye and prety much nothing else so far for DatDB), I'm going to warn all of you now that I don't envision this campaign being done for at least a year and a half, maybe two years. That's probably a conservative estimate, but it's better for me to set a far-off deadline and meet it early, than to set an unrealistic deadline and disappoint everyone when it doesn't get met. I'll provide a more exact estimated deadline once significant progress has been made.

Ok, we've got two people so far: Lone and Raven. Any other takers? I promise you won't be disappointed.... ;7 :drevil:

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention: DatDB is also going to include the Blue Beam weapon mod made by Xerxes. If anyone here knows him, let him know that I may need his services. I have his e-mail addy from the blue beam zipfile; I'll try to get in touch with him soon enough.

Be patient, young Padawan. ;)

Law school is starting up in two days, so I have Real Life (TM) issues to deal with first. There's also the fact that I want to keep the details of my campaign confidential for as long as possible, so as to preserve the surprise of the storyline for future players. If I tell too many people too soon, the secret could get out before the campaign is ready. If that happens, the campaign will be alot less fun for FS players.

Soon, Aqueous, you'll see all that you need to know. Just give me a few days (maybe a week) to get everything organized and you'll know what's going on. Just make sure you keep it all confidential, for the sake of the cmapign integrity and for the benefit of the FS Community. It will be worth it to surprise everyone.

Hey Su, I might be able do some mission building work for you. The only problem is that I have fallen significantly behind with my own campaign due to computer trouble (still do not have my main computer working), and so I might be pretty busy for the next month or two, but after PI's release I am pretty much free. ;)

I'm flattered :)

Trust me, those weapons on Reciprocity are already really old (from the time of Aldo's first campaign that got cancelled...), so you can expect that I will make really much better now :)

Also, I can help you a bit with FREDing when I finish my work for OTT, and Caught in the Middle (my big ambitious project :D ), so no promises about that... hmm but a mission or two, why not?? :)

List of definites so far:

1. Lonestar
2. Raven
3. AqueousShadow
4. Analazon

List of possibles for future joining:

1. CP5670 (once PI campaign is done, hopefully in a few months)

This is excellent, guys! I was hoping I would get this many people to help, but I didn't want to let myself expect this many poeple. I thought everyone would be too busy with their own projects. This is truly a pleasant surprise.

Ok, I've spent a good part of today building a new VP file. It has all the mods, tables, maps etc. needed for my campaign. It's pretty hefty; the damn thing is over 20 Megabytes. I'll winzip it and it will be ready to send off to all of you. I'll also add my campaign notes on a doc file; you all should enjoy reading this as it contains my plot outline for DatDB. You will all need o keep the plot secret; more on this below.

HOWEVER, I need all of you to do something for me: each of you should PM me with your most-up-to-date email addy so I know where to send the goodies. (Lone, Raven, I know your addies, so you don't need to include them when you PM me. CP, your e-mail addy changes each week, so you DEFINITELY need to PM me with your latest addy.)

When all of you PM me, YOU MUST STATE YOUR WILLINGNESS TO KEEP THE DatDB PLOT SECRET. I can't stress this enough. The doc file I'm sending you has a number of spoilers, but since all of you are going to be working with me, I can't really keep you in the dark if I really want quality work from all of you. You MUST make sure not to discuss the plot of DatDB with anyone who is not working with us. You all know my reasons, so I won't restate them here.

Ok, people, we're pretty much ready to get started. Just a bit of warning: I think I mentioned this before, at least to Lone, but I'll restate it here. This project is very likely to take up to two years to complete. I have law school for one more year, then I have to study for the bar exam so there will be a period of time when I will be incommunicado for months at a time over the next year and a half. When that happens, Lone will take over for me. Also, because I am going to be so busy, I will likely only be able to provide a sense of vision to this project; I don't have the time or the knowledge to really help out with the nitty gritty of building a campaign like modding, FREDding and such. Basically, I will give you all an outline of what to create; the details will be up to you. :)

If anyone else sees this thread and wishes to join the team, by all means, you are welcome, so long as you agree to keep the plot secret. If you have something to contribute, then you'll be welcomed.

Lone, if any of the UGC crew are willing to help, especially Oldman since he has just gotten back into FS2, just point them here to this thread and I'll put them up to speed.

As for Raven, Analazon, AqueousShadow, Lonestar (and CP when he's ready), once you PM me, I'll give you all the DatDB stuff you need.

BTW, the vp file I'll send to you is the first one I have ever made. There may be bugs in it, so if you try to look at a mod in the tech database and FS2 crashes because I forgot a particular texture or some other problem occurs, let me know right away and I'll try to fix it as best I can.

Welcome aboard, everyone!:) ;7

What would be better to keep this "secret" of ours, is not only have our website, but possibly have our own forum as well. I mean, it would be better to post stuff there for all of us to see and it could be easier than e-mailing. Good idea? ;7

I can always use more FREDders. :D

Well, I'm still tying to figure out what the 2d work is for. I saw that other people working on other campaigns were using people skilled in 2d art, so I thought I would ask for it just in case I eventually needed it.

I'm looking for people who can make good screen backgrounds for the static screens in the FS game (loading screen, pilot barrack screen, maybe debriefing screen, etc.

But if you can't do any of that Sheepy, we can always use a new FREDder.

PM me with your addy and I'll send off the vp file you need.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Freespace Community, I believe we now have enough people employed to keep DatDB viable. No further volunteers are needed at this time. However, if any vacancies should open up, I will let you all know. :)

Until the DatDB website becomes available (in all likelyhood, we'll try to get it hosted here), the DatDB crew coordinate out efforts here on this thread and through email.
