Getting Multiplayer Working?
Hello! I'm interested in playing some multiplayer with my brother, but it seems like the service that everyone relies on no longer allows new users. Is there any work around for this? LAN Emulation \ Direct IP play etc?

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
There is of course direct IP method, so you can use it:

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
I've tried LAN emulation and port forwarding with TCP\UDP 7808 to either of our IPs and neither worked :(

Edit: If anyone can help me get this working I'll buy you a pizza

Edt2: I'm a sysadmin and I'm down to go to stupid lengths to get this working on my machine. I have Fios as that's the only gig service in my area, but that means my external router is a garbage ass "Quantam Gateway" and I'm worried that's somehow hurting my ability to play this game online. As a  PPS if you want something that's not pizza I'll totally buy you whatever. I just want to play this game online!

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
You can try if either of you could connect to my server (see PM). If not, then we could conclude problems with your ISP. I'm running FSO 3.8.0

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
I can't see it even with the IP you gave me :(. Are there any settings I have to change in the Knossos launcher? I remember back in the day I needed to fiddle a bit with whatever the older launcher was.

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Sorry, server was down. Can you check now?

No, Knossos should do alright by default, unless you see some errors entering multiplayer room, but that will be whole another story.

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
And BTW have you checked that server IP is saved in game options? I remember that it could vanish from there (perhaps accept wasn't pressed etc.)

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Still can't see it. By the way this should all work with FS2 Media VPs right? Want to make sure I'm not breaking something by using that build! I've completely shut down my software firewall, and my hardware firewall is at minimum settings. This is my port forwarding setup

I also get this error when I try to go into multiplayer does it mean anything?

Also here's my network setup in game in freespace. I blacked out your IP for privacy but did I miss anything here?

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Quick follow up. I literally just made my computer a DMZ host on my network so it's now completely exposed to the open internet and I still can't see the server... I guess that means it's probably not a port forwarding issue?

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Your setup in FS is allright, your port forwarding looks like too. But that error is the problem, and we should start with it in first place.

I would not expose your PC to the Internet, mean time of life of such a PC could be 15 min, and you get a whole bunch of Trojans on board.

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Now. Please shut down Knossos, go to %appdata%\Roaming\HardLightProductions\FreeSpaceOpen folder and check fs2_open.ini. Look for those two options:
NetworkConnection=LAN
ConnectionSpeed=Fast

If there are, set them as above. If there are none, create them after this section:
EnableJoystickFF=0
EnableHitEffect=0

Save, launch Knossos and check if that error is gone.

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
I hope you didn't face the consequences of being exposed to Internet.

Re: Getting Multiplayer Working?
Thank you! We're on to new errors which is good I think? I've joined the discord.
