Ok-MAJOR help needed
I really need some help with my LAN network. We're all stumped here, and can't figure it out. I'm using a linksys wireless router with  (of course) linksys gear in each of the machines. But here's the odd part: Only ONE computer (the one I'm posting this on) is able to connect to the signal. The other computer has everything in there, but it doesn't want to acquire the signal. It scans the channel that we're on, but doesn't connect. The configuration of the non-working PC is this:

PIII 800
Geforce 2
256 MB of RAM
Linksys wireless lan networking card.
30 GB hard drive (forgot the brand)
250 W Power Supply
32X CD ROM
32X CDRW

P.S. The connection was working before, this just started a couple days ago.

The blue network cable has never failed me... Wireless is a useless luxery if you have all the computers somewhat near each other.

what's the computer that works' stats?  what router is it (model number)
also, are you using a laptop or anything?  cause otherwise there's no point for a wireless except you don't need to run wires, that's all

i say get a regular router, run some CAT 5, and you'll have it, cause it's always harder to set up wireless networks...

give me the information i require and i'll try to hlep you

I tried to network the computers here once and I got a similar problem to the opne you are describing; I eventually just gave up on that since it was too much of a hassle. :p Perhaps I should try again some time...

Checked both the machines have the right IP addresses and are on the same workgroup with no screwy settings?

Running the same Operating systems? (dont even bother with win95/98/ME)

And lasty, yes - i would recommend you use RJ-45 10/100 base networks because I have no experience with wireless equipment.

Is the tx/rx widget on the wireless card soiled in any way?  try wiping it with a soft cloth and a *bit* of white spirit.

did you move the machine around (IE, is there a line of sight?)

thats just about all I can think of at the moment.

Well, we would use wires, except for the inconvienient positioning of the phone outlets (for the DSL).
I'm running XP on the non-working machine
Working pc's stats:

AMD Athlon XP
Windows 2000 Server
Onboard Geforce 2 GPU
256 MB of RAM

That's the clincher then. Your neighbor is operating a pirate radio station that reaches half the solar system, so of course you're gonna get problems with the wireless! :p

For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. this may sound stupid but you don't know how many times i have gone over to someone's house to fix thier new comp, and just turned on switch on the back of the tower.......

do they have to be logged into windows in order to access the network....i don't mean working in windows, i mean actually logging on, also, have you checked the adapters on the machine's that are no longer on network?  Sometimes the adapters can do some screwy things....i am talking about the adapters in network neighborhood.
