but those are games for internet only. Blue lion statement is for any game. MMORPGs, ok, there's a logic in paying a monthly fee, so Everquest: ok
Mechwarrior4 isn't made to be played only for internet, so having to pay for updates, I call that robbery, I pay for a goddam game, not for a part of it. Now of course if it's an addon, it's different.

I categorically refuse to pay a monthly fee for anything except utilities bills - and thats' bad enough.

It gives distribution companies FAR too much control over aspects of your life you don't even realise are under danger.

This is exactly what the whole RIAA/MPAA/Microsoft/AOL time warner are after.   An integrated distribution/content system where you, the user, have no rights and no control.

They correctly realise that entertainment has supplanted religion as the primary indoctrination tool in western society and this is, beleive it or not, what will clinch their ability to essentially control you.

It is mind control, i'm not a ranting lunatic.  If you just look at the facts and read between the lines you'll see it coming from astronomical units away.

I wouldn't pay, I even couldn't, I don't have a credit card. Of course my dad could be able to pay, but I bet he wouldn't. :p

I don't think you need a credit card for many of the games today. At least not for WW2OL.

I agree with Blue lion, It takes money to update it and to pay for the hours that those who keep working with it.

my vote is yes. It can't be other wise.

Lets take this example,
Everyone at HLP are working on a project, lets say its a massive multiplayer game. And we are all doing this for free. We finally finish it, the game Rocks, a lot of people like it. and its free to play on line. And of course the game will caste about lets say 45 dollers, thats how much a really good game costs for PC's.
Eventually we disolve not all of us but, most of us because we are doing different things, And there is nothing really to keep those who started it because they aren't getting payed or they left for some reason, now we have a problem, everything from updates to gameplay is mostlikely suffering because of this.

That is the problem with those kind of games.

I wouldn't pay to play anything. Fortunately, it's my dad who pays for my UO account. :p

Did you trick him or something?

"Yeah, it's for my education"... :D

I have a relatively free alternative to MMORPGs, which has massive levels of freedom and social acceptance. You'll hardly realise you're paying for it, either.

It's called Going Outside™ ;)

That is my reasoning behind this as well; I already bought the game, so it is mine now, and I am not going to pay any more. (besides, each of these pay-to-play games cost about the same as a 56k connection; for just a single game, that is simply ridiculous)

I have even a better one: math books! You have freedom to work on any problem you please, and as for social acceptance, the theta functions will never say they don't want you around or anything. :D

and therefore people would continue not buying these, then people will continually drop out of the game due to less updates and companies will decide MMORPGs are too unstable to make and we'll get our happy bundles of singleplayer and limited multiplayer yet again :p ;)

I like the idea for one reason: you pay $10 for a month long full featured demo of a game. You like it, you keep it. You don't, you haven't wasted your other $40.

It had better be a damn good game though if you're going to be paying $120/year, and you'd better play it a lot.

like bills, you'll forget you have to pay and you'll wind up paying more because the transaction is more insiduous.

DONT SAY YES TO THIS - AT ALL.

It depends... I was very happy with EQ these last 2 years until 2 things...

1.) The price went up to like $12.50

2.) There are bringing out EQ2 and it is seperate. You have to start all over again. Shell out $50.00 and get a new account.

3.) EQ1 will be running but won't get much better (abandoned by developers for EQ2 (priority)....

So... While people flock from EQ1 to EQ2 (lightening the server loads and crowded camps :)   You still will be paying the same amount for an inferior product (unless EQ2 is gonna be even more than $12.50)? Screw whoever is responsible (Verant or Sony, or even both)... I have a good question... Knowing that user base is gonna plummet unless they just wanna shut down EQ1 and let it die why increase the price just as they are releasing EQ2??? I mean sure I may be intersted in EQ2 but I WILL NOT CONTINUE MY EQ1 ACCOUNT! Sorry I'm upset! If they were smart they know that support demands will be less, updates less expected (after all this time they should have the game right by now), and to keep a user base going give them a marketing break by making the "Outdated" game econimicly attractive compared to the "New Model"...

As for FS3 (IF they made it, not the WE need them to.) IF it was good and satisfied me HELL YEAH I would but the quality and support had to be there otherwise no way! Lately I've seen a whole messa games come out that are just online multiplayer and I thik they suck and not worth any $ from me...

What's going on HERE seems more exciting and worthwhile and if user support was needed (one time Donation, like $10.00 or something) To get a fan based FS3 with all the improvements. If I tried it and thought it was worth it, the Money Order would be in the mail tomorrow! That's my .02 cents (thought I'll probably be billed for length)

Since we're discussing money... .02 cents is two hundredths of a cent. Do you have two coupons for sale?

I won't pay to play.  Period.

The only thing I'd pay for is an online service and only if its a one-time charge.
