Movie opinions needed
Since I've heard numerous and wildly differring opinions about Pearl Harbor, I wanted to take a poll and find out what you all think. So please, don't just look at this thread and move on if you've seen the movie, it only takes a second to vote.

Also, if you haven't seen the movie, don't vote! :)

I'm not including options such as "Hated 1st half, liked 2nd" simply because I want to know what your overall opinion is, not what parts you liked/didn't like. :D

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Well thought out, slaps An0n, has enough lovey dovey stuff to keep the females interested and enough action to keep they terminator freaks interested.  Good acting as well.  However it is kinda long for a lovey dovey/ action movie.

Overall I give it a total of 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
It's a fact.  Stupid people have stupid children.  If you are stupid, don't have sex.  If you insist on having sex.  Have sex with animals.  If you have sex with an animal.  Make sure the animal is smarter than you are.  Just encase of some biological fluke you and the animal have offspring, they won't be as stupid as you are.   One more thing.  Don't assume the animal is protected.  If the animal has a condom, or if female some interuterian device, insist they wear it.  Help stop this mindless mindlessness.  Keep your stupidty to yourself.  This message was brought to you by the Committee of Concerned Citizens that are Smarter than You are.

I liked the attempt at making a love element, but would rather have had a REAL story told in the baground of the battle. Instead of just showing how real people fought and died, why not also show us how they lived? Unless that triangle was actually based on a real event... then it was an awesome movie!
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

Never seen it, but from all that I have heard, it appears to be a  crap movie in the same manner that all the others are. Tora! Tora! Tora! is the definitive movie on the pearl harbor event; this probably sucks compared to that one. :p

CP, Tora! Tora! Tora! got hammered by the critics. It did poorly exactly because it had no story. Yeah, it was a close-to-exact rendidtion of what actually happened at Pearl Harbor, but it wasn't an entertaining story. People were expecting to be entertained and what they got was a not-so-interesting documentary.

At least, so I'm told. I never saw Tora! Tora! Tora!

But I did see Pearl Harbor and I did enjoy it.

well, my suggestion for how to make pearl harbor a good movie:

A) if in theatre, walk out for the first hour, then go back it ;)

B) if on tape, fast forward to the bombing scene

The first half is a chickflick, middle is the good part, and end is just...poorly done.

Actually, I found it quite interesting; it is true that they could have added in a bit more on the political situation (especially on the Japanese side), but there was still enough of it to put it well above the other movies out there today. One thing that this one really got right was to not focus on some insignificant individuals (only the ones at the top), but rather on the movements of the society as a whole. This is the thing that I have heard of any other movie getting correct. Anyway, it was far, far more interesting than any stupid love story could ever have been. :p

Such wise words....

Yeah, overall, Pearl Harbor was gawdawful. It was cool when the planes flew over and blew everything up, but that didn't offset the fact that Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck were in it together. Basically, if you're a girl who's out to watch those two get killed, then see the movie. Otherwise, save your money and go watch Goldmember or something funny. ;)(Of course, maybe in a sick perverted way, watching those two get killed is funny.)
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

The only movie I ever walked out on was Tim Buron's A Nightmare Before Christmas.

I HATE MUSICALS!

I know that Josh Hartnett dies in PH; does he die or live in Black Hawk Down? I wanna see that movie, but I haven't had the chance yet.
