Rescuing the Actaeon...
I've run into a problem. I no longer have 3ds MAX at my disposal, and I've got my ship ALMOST completely textured- everything except the back end(engine area and back of the wings.) So, I can't use MAX for texturing anymore, and I don't have anything else that can apply Unwrapped UVW coords. Still worse, I have the latest version only in .MAX form. But, I'm not about to give up- I'll just need a bit of help.  

So, could someone with MAX(I was using 3.1) please help me out? I'll give the model file and more details if and when anyone volunteers, but basically here's what I need done:

1. The back end needs basic UV mapping, that I can fine-tune under Lith.
2. The file needs to be saved in .3ds format.

Of course, if anyone is feeling extra generous, they can also help me with the conversion- I don't have TS, so I have no way to build the right hierarchy for Cob->Pof conversion. I don't even really have a way to go from 3ds to cob.   But that can wait, I think.

Hi I've not learned to texture yet but I can certainly do the max to 3ds conversion for you. Have you tried buying an older version of 3dsmax from local design companies when they upgrade? that's how I got mine.
mail me the file and I'll get it back as soon as I can.

Thanks Wraith, the conversion is very useful. It looks like I'll be able to finish the texturing job using Lith from here, once I figure out which lines I need to move. Your help was most appreciated!  

Only one problem- where'd the thrusters go?   Don't worry about it now, but at some point I'll just ask you to merge the new, fully UVW mapped Hull object to the thruster objects, if that's alright with you...if you don't know how, I'll try to remember as best I can.

I love Lith. Finishing the mapping went even smoother than I thought it would! Here it is, in all it's glory-

 

I still need a bit of help though- like I just said, the thrusters aren't in the model. So Wraith, all I need you to do is open up the .max I sent you, delete the current hull object, and use file/merge to add the new one in. Then, just export everything to .3ds, and mail it to me...then I'll decide what to do from there.

Pilots beware...the Actaeon is coming...

Slight problem.
I Just checked the original .max file and it only has a hull, no thruster I'm afraid.
I Could build one and try texturing it but it may be quicker for you to create a thruster in some other modeler as I STILL haven't had time to learn texturing.

I'm pretty sure they're there...I just remembered though, I had them hidden. I think to unhide all, it's on the display tab(the one with the monitor on it) and there should be a button that says Unhide All.

If that doesn't work, I'll send you an older .max of the file...I haven't changed the thrusters for quite a few revisions(the one I sent you was about number 40.)
