The log does not make clear what's not working. Please provide additional info.

Well, I installed the Demo, and when I try to enter the campaign, the loading screen comes up and 1 pip turns white while the rest of the loading bar stays dark and a message saying "Attempt to load the mission failed."

I switched the FSO build to "mod default" but that didn't fix the problem. It was set for 19 RC3 even though RC3 is NOT in the listed options (don't ask me how that happened). I switched it to 3.8.0 and that seems to have fixed it...

EDIT:...for about 23 seconds. Just started the first mission in the demo, approached the Shivan fighters and was about to fire when the game crashed.

EDIT2: Just tried it again and it crashed at the very same time, 25 seconds in.

I'm gonna try to get a log of this now.

The Demo doesn't seem to run at all on the RC builds (it says "Attempt to load the mission failed.") and crashes after only 25 seconds in-game on 3.8.0.-3

Even setting the FSO build to "mod default" doesn't help.

The MVPs use a particle effect that require something newer than 3.8.0 to work. You could try to open the mission on recent FRED-Debug builts.

And which builds are those? Build Testing - Network? FSO Multilock? Not seeing many other chooseable options besides the Wings of Dawn Builds...

And where would I find that? It's not among the FSO builds selectable in Knossos under FSO settings.

EDIT2: Ok, found "nightlies" in the Knossos settings gear icon. Trying again now.

Ugh, tried running it with FSO 20.1.0-20200224 and now I get sound ok, but a completely black screen so I can't even see how to get away from the now-blacked-out menu screen. I can hear the beeps from scrolling my cursor over things but I can't see what I'm scrolling over. Even the opening cutscene is blacked out. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Hmm strange, everything should be there. Possibly the Knossos version of the FS2 demo got broken?

Funny thing was, I just wanted to get to the 5th mission of the demo to confirm the name of the 77th squadron mentioned in that mission was indeed the Deadly Sevens. (The Freespace Wiki says that Mission 5 of the demo refers to the 77th as the Deadly Sevens...unless I misinterpreted something.) The .pcx file for that particular squadron icon was unnamed when I found and saw it first (IIRC it just had the filename as 77th.pcx), so I just pulled the name "Deadly Sevens" out of my proverbial ass because what else was I gonna name a squadron whose image was a Seven of Diamonds paired with a Seven of Spades and a dagger superimposed in front? At least the Suicide King motif for the 242nd squadron was a real poker card thing!

If the demo really does refer to the 77th squadron as the Deadly Sevens, then that was a completely uncanny guess on my part because I haven't even seen anything of the demo yet. :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

As I recall, the demo only has two missions: Crisis in Capella and Crimson Sky.

Then where and what is "M-05"? Because that's the mission number (or whatever it is) referenced in the Freespace Wiki Shivan Ship Database. See the SCv Tumael and the SC Belphegor, both appearing in mission M-05 and were both "Destroyed by 77th Deadly Sevens squadron".

Some of the retail multiplayer missions have the filenames M-01 to M-04. I'm not sure where M-05 is, though.

edit: The great search feature revealed to me that M-05 is the same as the multiplayer mission that comes with the demo.

Holy crap, I guessed right. :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: Of all the myriad possibilities for the name of the 77th squadron's icon and I guessed it right!

I mean, holy crap, there's not even a poker card nickname for the 7 of spades together with the 7 of diamonds. Hell, even the Suicide King is on that list, but there ain't nothing about those particular two 7s (although there are motifs for a pair of 7s, just not the 7 of spades together with the 7 of diamonds in particular). :confused:

The demo is fixed now.  'Twas a minor oversight that only occurred with post-3.8.1 builds.
