I'm feeling a little nostalgic this month. March's theme will be Ancients. Show me your xenophobic might and purge all who oppose the Empire's will!

The rules are:

1: No HUD! (Jump nodes are ok though!)
2: Images must be presented as they would be as seen with only the FSO engine rendering the image. Remember that these entries help to show off what the engine can do for new players! So that means no after the fact photoshopping (except for cropping), and no external shader programs (reshade and the like). No lens flares, contrast shifts, colorizers, etc.
3: Max 3 entries per person!
4: Again, these screenshots are a way to promote Freespace and the FSO Engine - let's keep it in good taste.

Request for clarification: This is specific to the Freespace Ancients, so other Precursors or Living Precursors from TCs are out?

Initially i wanted regular old Freespace ancients but you have convinced me. Why not both! And we'll have two winners! One for TC and one for Freespace!

Imgur tells me they're 4 years old. I have a massive collection of FS screenshots but there's a problem - many are from pre-HDR era and without many upgraded assets... Also silly me, I saved them in .gif format and noticed the quality drop only far far too late. :nervous:

Though being ever so slightly pixelated doesn't seem to cause any sorts of problems with these screenies and I'm too lazy to go replay ASW to re-shoot them. Maybe someday?

Also, I just realised that I love that background in them. As an afterthought: the Ancients, expanding beyond their place in the Universe, contrasting even with the space itself.

The background is used in ASW, I think near the end of Act 1.

Have I mentioned yet how much I like that screen? :D

I just love how the glows on the corvette shine against the stars, and the ominous Shivan juggernaut background helps set the tone. It's all wonderful.
