Okay, sorry about this.  I did ask this question before somewhere but I can't find it archived anywhere and I did spend a long time searching.

So my question is regarding the numbers in the music.tbl and what the calculations are to figure them out.

the numbers are to set the timing for when things get mergered between songs have a look in the descent network developer section there is some info in there.if you want to create a new soundtrack just copy the last one edit everything except the numbers so like the numbers will be the same as the one you copyed them from andthe filename will be different and that is it. I have edited the numbers and they make little or no difference ingame...and you are not really going to notice if you are killing tonnes of ships off are you?

Oh no...the numbers are quite quite important.

We've replaced the entire music.tbl file in Babylon Project, and while im not a idiot on howto edit table files (ie. im not breaking the parser) I am 99% sure now that the numbers are causing a consistantly happening Illegal Operation apon closing FS2 when using the music.tbl file for The Babylon Project.

The information on Dnet was useless as it talks about measures and you don't determine that by looking at file formats as the information implies.  And yes, I am a musician and I have been playing music for the better part of 7 years.  No, im no music theory genius and I definately do not have a great level of musical notation understanding, but the number of measures doesn't help me here.

Perhaps somebody could enlighten us on how to do the math because I, too, have been wondering about this. For me, also, that stuff on Dnet didn't help.

If you told me you have illegal operations with your music, I could have helped Ice  

I found out that there seems to be a size limit on music files before FS2 gives an illegal parser when exiting.

Try to compress the B5 music some more and keep file sizes under a meg. (about 1.2+ is when you start getting parser errors when closing FS2)

Ace I'll have you check it out too, but some others don't think thats the problem.

Someone did a Gladiator soundtrack and those are over 1.2mb almost exclusively.

The only crash problems I've had are with size limitations however, so I might not be of much help despite my tinkering with these files before.
