And now from Neowin...

Someone asked what colours the boxes would be.

With seven major colours in the rainbow, there's an obvious answer.

I can hear it now:

"It can truly be said that Windows comes in all the colours of the rainbow."

... although that was mostly true of WinXP.

I've never read anything so stupid in my life. I really hope they're kidding.

Yeah, that sounds like an up to date OS...

Stupid idea - all it does is ghettoise PC users. From the original article is doesn't look like you'll be able to watch HDTV and use EFS without having to pay through the nose for the uber-edition. Yet another plus for Linux.

Notice that nowhere on that list was one actually designed for multimedia developers? :hopping:

*sigh*

I'm all for customizing to the user base...BUT...this is stupid.  And knowing MS, you'll pay through the nose for all of them.

We'll see what actually comes later.  I'm sort of hoping that half of what they are saying is pure crap and that things are actually much more reasonable than suggested.

Vista COULD be an awesome OS if its lean, well put together, visually impressive (to a point), and focuses on performance, security, and stability.  Above all, it has to have a good selling price point.  About $100 for Home Ed full.  Any more and its highway robbery.  Hell, Apple can do it....

Am I the only one who thinks the "Game performance tweaker" simply shuts down all the extranious crap that Vista runs in order to get similar performance to XP or 2K?

It's looking more and more like Microsoft are starting to realise that they were actually on the right track with XP and 2K and decided to take a violent swing in another direction so they can go back to having everyone think that their products are utter ****e again.

Seriously Bill. If you need humiliation just go wear a nappy and get a woman in a gimp mask to spank you. There's no need to drag us down just to get your jollys.

Poor, deluded Microsoft. Everyone will just pirate the ultimate edition and be done with it.

and prob just trash it and go back to xp or 98 because its a waste of resources if u can only do a handful of things on lower levels.

expect the ultimate edition at a iso site near u ;)

So. I guess we're staying with XP and Win2k.

I swear idiots are working for or managing that company.

That can't be right.... it's missing the fundamental point of what an operating system is supposed to do (which, I guess, means it's probably true......)

Or Suse 10.0 which looks more interesting every day.

I just need a second hard drive as my first is full.

I'd be tempted to go Linux if my sound card wasn't a pain to get drivers working for at all, let alone in Linux.

Do you want salt with that?

Knowing Microsoft, I'd say that this snapshot of Vista is pretty accurate. Looks like it was designed and presided over by a marketroid. A particularly retarded one at that.

Nah, I try to reduce my intake, but thanks :)
I bet it will be hard to manage 7 diff versions, when already the XP Home/XP Pro duality has some problems with consistency.

Photos? damn Kara.. ;)

There's three (Home, Pro, and MCE), plus Win2k3. So four "current" versions of Windows at the same time.

From those you listed, does MS claim compatibility between others than XP Home/XP Pro?
We'll see, It sure sounds ambitiuous (and ambiguous :) ) *looks around for the hat, though*
