So it's just a bomb with the cool sound tacked on? A bit less impressive than a proper seismic charge would be. I know non-spherical explosions seem a bit odd, and are probably difficult (impossible?) to replicate in FreeSpace, but that's clearly what happened in the movie, and part - albeit a small part - of what made the scene so memorable, what with the ring cutting the larger asteroids in half instead of simply pulverizing them. Shaped charges are possible now, presumably Star Wars tech allows for shaped detonations that are remarkably better controlled. What's the point, you ask? If you were to drop that bomb on a planet, then unless you dropped it on the crest of a hill you'd see massive devastation on the surface, without any energy wasted making a big localized crater, or simply shot up into the air. Certainly, even with Star Wars tech you lose some efficiency to a shaped charge, but less than you lose by heating soil into glass. In deep space, a bomb like that is fairly useless. I don't know why Fett would be carrying a specialized ground attack device, perhaps some bounties don't require recognizable remains or minimal collateral damage.
