Freespace Port 3.1.1 + FSPort Media VPs Release

We're back and better than ever! Release 3.1.1 is the biggest update yet and its goal is to bring you the ultimate Great War experience in the 21st century.

Just a few of the many, many upgrades you'll find in this release:
  • A totally overhauled interface and HUD that looks, sounds and feels like the classic Freespace!*
  • Fully animated ship and weapon select interface animation in the classic style!*
  • New fully animated command briefings for Galactic Terran Intelligence, the Parliamentary Vasudan Navy, and the Terran-Vasudan Alliance!
  • A new fully voiced Vasudan Command persona!
  • Training missions and cutscenes all fully integrated into the main campaign!**
  • Includes The Great War, Silent Threat and Operation Templar campaigns!
...

As always FSPort remains retail compatible but optimized for Freespace Open. This release is fully primed for version 3.6.10 and the Media VPs, with its own graphical enhancements package! This includes:
  • Shine maps, glow maps, and normal maps for almost all classic ships!**
  • High-poly enhanced models for the Apollo, Valkyrie, Karnak and more!**
  • Upgraded weapon effects, including tech models and support for Shivan warheads!**

Downloads

You may download version 3.1.1 automatically using Turey's Installer or manually via the links below.

FSPort 3.1.1 Core
FSPort Missions Pack
High Resolution Interface Art
Cutscene Pack**
FS1/ST Voice
FS1/ST Command Briefing Animations
FS1/ST Music**

FSPort Media VP Pack**
FS1 DVD Hi-Res Textures

Fall of Vasuda Prime Cutscene***

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Retail FS2: Unzip to your Freespace2 directory, and make a new pilot. To return to the FS2 campaign, move, delete, or rename the extension of fsport3_1_1.vp. The readme should help answer the most common questions.

FS2 Open: Unzip to a new 'fsport' directory in your Freespace2 directory, and select it from the Mods tab of the launcher.
If using the FSPort Media VPs, unzip them to a new 'fsport-mediavps' directory in your FreeSpace2 folder. Be sure that you have the 3.6.10 MVPs installed in 'mediavps' and you're using a 3.6.10 build. If you're playing a mod that uses FSPort, add 'fsport-mediavps' to the mod.ini just before 'fsport' in the SecondaryMod line.

You must select a Ported campaign in the campaign room such as "The Main FreeSpace Campaign" or "Silent Threat".  Simply launching into the ready room will start the main FreeSpace 2 campaign, which will not work when the Port is active.

Big, big thanks to everyone who contributed to this, including Galemp, Goober5000, Admiral Nelson, Cobra, Hellstryker, Flaming Sword, Vasudan Admiral, Aardwolf, Dark, DTP, the SCP Team, the whole Freespace Community and especially Volition, for starting it all.

* Requires resolution of 1024x768 or greater with high-res interface art package.
** Requires FSOpen 3.6.10.
*** Requires FSOpen 3.6.10, and also requires editing of the freespace.fc2 campaign file. (Instructions) Made by IceyJones, not by the FSPort team.
† A retail-level enhancement; you won't need this if you're using the mediaVPs.

Known issues:

Missing Subsystems Due to a bug in FSO in builds between July 13 and December 20, neither the Eva nor the Lucifer will have subsystems in sm2-08, Playing Judas.  FSO 3.6.10 Final works fine.

Radar Icons. This is the recommended Wanderer build for using radar icons, and includes the shield bugfix.

Mission Backgrounds. Currently, the FSO mission backgrounds are missing some suns, which causes the retail backgrounds to be displayed instead. The missing graphics will be included in the 3.6.10 Media VP patch.

Low-res Interface. 640x480 is supported but will no longer be receiving enhancements. Too much work for too little benefit.

Weapon Interface Art. New weapons like the Vasudan Light Laser and Fang Missile will receive all-new FS1-style artwork in v. 3.2. Help is appreciated.

Operation Templar. The current version is playable, but not fully evaluated. Full enhancements will be present in v. 3.2.

Silent Threat. It sucks. We know. Try this instead.

Version 3.1.1 is now out, complete with a ton of minor (and one or two major) bugfixes.  I highly recommend using Turey's Installer to perform the upgrade from 3.1, since it will remove the old VPs and ensure that the VPs are all brought up-to-date to the latest versions.

The files that have changed from 3.1 are the core VP, the missions VP, the sparky_hi_fs1 VP, and the FSPort media VP.

Hi Guys.

I see - its IMPORTANT that you have downloaded and installed the MediaVPs 3.6.10 manually !
It seems that this VPs are not downloadable with the Installer. ( hmm... funny)
The Old Thread for the Release 3.1.0 is locked.

The Athena has three secondary banks in loadout now for some reason. Though you can't put anything in the third bank.

it's because it's a reskin of trashman's athena mark 2

come to think on it, it has 4 guns in one bank too... (which i already had anyway, because i hacked the tables to use the real athena mark 2. i just edited the gun banks though.)

The FSPort MediaVPs are still at version 3.1 but will be upgraded to 3.1.1 later this weekend.  In the meantime, everyone should try running 3.1.1 by itself, without any mediaVPs, to verify that it works for them.

The FSPort MediaVPs have now been updated to version 3.1.1, and are now available via the download links above as well as via Turey's Installer.

SVN's been pretty volatile the last day or two.  There's still a couple of big bugs with some work being done on them, so keep an eye on that bug in particular.

No, we got them... but Goober compiled them. I don't know how much testing he did, he seemed pretty anxious to release.

Ah. That's why I didn't get the credits for helping. Oh well

The thing that annoys me though, is that you don't make a single pack of it, so it's more convenient to download.

The thing that annoys me though, is that you don't make a single pack of it, so it's more convenient to download.

Why?  Then, when they updated from 3.1 to 3.1.1, you'd have to redownload the entire thing.  Now you only had to redownload a few chunks of it.  Most parts don't update nearly as often as others might, so there's really no reason for that.  I don't understand this obsession with 'one pack to rule them all'.  The installer makes it easy enough to get them anyway if it's ease of install you're really after.

I didn't test them; I just put them directly into the VP...

One zip containing 2 folders (fsport and fsport-mediavps) with all the files would have been easier.  Part downloads could have still been available too and the updates could still have been parts.  So several VP's but one zip available with all of them(and the other files) in it.

I'm not complaining thought just stating the obvious.
