Look, your enthusiasm is remarkable, but mentioning your mashup in every single thread is only going to annoy everyone.

If your project interests people, they will talk about it by themselves. You're just posing yourself as an attention-seeker here, to avoid less glamorous terms.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Have you ever considered how annoying it is that you make sure to tell everyone about every little thing that annoys you, as if it's their personal business to make sure everything they do meets your approval.

Matth's correct, constant self-plugging is poor etiquette and should be gently called out. It was a problem with Legate Damar and a number of other eager new developers before him.

He's exaggerating though. He's mentioned it just a few times over the months he's been here. Not constantly. And not in a "look at me!" type way.

Just a few times, huh?

And that's ignoring posts where I would consider the reference on-topic, of which he has made quite a few more references. I have no problem with someone wanting to promote a project they're spending a lot of time on, but he goes out of his way to bring it up in completely unrelated threads when it really just comes off as "pleeeease pay attention to my epic BP fanfiction, you guys!"

EDIT: Keep in mind how low Bryan See's total post count is. This is a significant chunk of his total posts on these forums.

I don't know what's the problem with the first one. Maybe it's a Blue Planet thing, as I stay away from BP as I haven't played it and want to avoid spoilers for when I eventually do.

The rest, the only one out of place is the middle one. He's praising people, thanking them and letting them know he is going to make use of their work. What's wrong with that? That's what I'd want to see if I was a creator. He's drawing from other mods so of course he's going to show up in other places. He's just trying to make his campaign.

Post count is irrelevant to me. How often is what's important.

No, these are definitely intrusive and problematic, and Bryan should think about stepping it back a little.

This just feels like people (well, Matt) saying something akin to shut up newb, you haven't earned the right to talk yet.

Aren't we supposed to encourage people and feed their enthusiasm, not tell them to shut up and go away? Is it too much to put up with what amounts to one post a month?

Re: Bryan See and how to promote your mod
We can encourage people while helping them be polite, professional forum members. And, if they become consistently disruptive (which Bryan hasn't yet, I'm sure he means well), we can apply corrective action.

And I'm sure he means well too. So what is the problem?

The problem is that he isn't behaving well, so we're helping him learn how to.

Because "meaning well" != "behaving properly in a polite, professional manner".

Also:
This just feels like people (well, Matt) saying something akin to shut up newb, you haven't earned the right to talk yet.
I really didn't get that from Matth's post (and, just to be clear, that is also nowhere near what I meant by my mention of his post count; I was pointing out that those 'few' posts are a significant percentage of his total participation on the forums, that's all). It's not that we want him to shut up; it's not even that we want him to not talk about his mod. He should be excited about the work he's doing! Instead, we're just asking that he not go out of his way to mention it in completely unrelated threads in a manner that screams "pleeeease pay attention to my epic BP fanfiction, you guys!" Sorry, but it's not like nobody's heard of your mod, Bryan; if you want people to talk about it more, all you have to do is release something for people to talk about.

Allow others to talk about their excitement for his mod, showcase his progress in a centralized location, and keep threads on-topic. This is basic forum etiquette and I'm sure he won't have a problem with it.

Don't worry, I got no such impression from you. Or Battuta.

I suppose I can get on board with what you and Battuta are saying, but what about that post about using the Erebus? Surely he can only post such a thing in the thread about the Erebus?

Can't we talk about our own work though if something comes up in another thread. Saying "oh that's like what I'm doing?" Or something like that.

Lorric, you are beating a dead horse with this issue.  MatthTheGeek was correct to gently chide Bryan See on his mistake.  Nobody was acting inappropriately here.*

*Except for perhaps yourself.  Nearly every other post in this now-split thread is authored by you; that ought to be a signal to dial it back a bit.

I've basically given it up now. I think it's over.
