Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Ok, I tried in two ways. First I removed the LS nebulae vp and left your campaign vp. The next time I removed your campaign vo and left the nebulae vp. And on both occasions the game rolled as smooth as my new bike. As far as I have understood it, the LS nebulae alone will replace the stock nebulae, though the result is usually somewhat weird looking. Still, the game does use them. And that didn't cause any slowdowns. Only when I applied the campaign vp the game seriously slowed down. I should also point out that the slowdown does not depend on either what direction my ship is pointingor how many ships are on my line of sight. I am sad since I really liked what you had done to the backgrounds with the nebulae. I just don't understand why the game only slows down on that particular mission. If I actually get money at some point of my life, I shall try the memory upgrade solution and see if that helps.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
Do you have a version of the nebulae that use DDS files or the original uncompressed files?  That might be one other source of the problem.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
It would appear to be the one that uses dds files.

Got it from there. And just a couple of hours ago acquired QuickVP.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
That was my last hope.  I suppose machines with shared system and graphics memory are uniquely vulnerable to FSO's architecture -- with substantial memory requirements in both areas.  Your system must start paging out to the hard disk due to the number of different nebulae files used in that mission, which then kills your performance.  Adding memory might solve the issue, but I am not familiar with how such graphic adapters coexist with ordinary memory use.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
The last mission need something more....

apart from fixing those two jumping in and out medical vessels....

Something that make the player to think about go intro the node and jump or turn back and save someone...

maybe add more ships? that for that time can jump but a wing of bombers jump in and destroy then unless the player turn back and engage... only the player, all team mates should be on the run to the node and jump, and removing the give order ability to wingmates...

with some of the capella missions, either the sun is in the wrong position, or the shivan jaggernauts (For the scrambled radar signatures near the sun) are. (I bet it is the sun)

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
I don't mean to be a bother. But, ever since the stock missions with lightspeeds stuff came out. I haven't been able to get them to work. Of course the file i downloaded here i put into the mediavp folder, and the stock missions still show the mv_adveffects high res **** nebulae.

Since then i've deleted my old fs2 directory and saved my player files, did a fresh install with turey's installer also made it download lightspeeds nebulae, put my player files back in, and i still don't get to see lightspeeds stuff :( Is it because of my player files i theorize?

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
The mission files need to reference them.  Check the file you downloaded here, does the vp have updated mission files?  If not, you need to find the updated mission files...

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
This may sound odd  but it worked for me when Btrl was running super slow and mabee it might be a similar case with these nebulas.  Unpack the nebula and campaign vp and put all files in your mediavp/data folder in their proper folders.  For some reason This showed a profound improvement on performence.

probably because the game doesn't need to unpack the vp's files first. the data folder contents are "uncompressed" and are loaded much faster.

Alright, well i made a fresh install of fs2 with tureys installer getting it souped up for linux. Then i also downloaded the vp file from the beginning of this thread and placed it in there, and still no lightspeed nebulas. So i guess i need the updated mission files, and where do i get those?

Nope.  .vp files have 0.00000000000% compression.  They optimize performance when they are contiguous, as all files are in one continuous stream on the disk.  I think your .vp files are probably fragmented beyond mention.  Try using Contig + PowerDefrag to defrag your FS2 dir.  See in my sig, "Optimizing Performance".

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
OK, i get it now. The updated mission files here reference lightspeeds nebula vp, and the updated mission files does not include lightspeeds nebula, it has references for lightspeeds nebula vp file. OK, so i know what to do now, thx.

Re: RELEASE: FS2 Stock Missions with Lightspeed Nebulae
note on shared memory: main system memory is significantly slower than VRAM

The Radeon X1900XT 256MB pumps 57.1Gbytes/sec and the Radeon HD 2900XT pumps 105.6GB/sec

DDR2-800 (PC6400) ram pumps 6.4GB/sec

to find "top end video cards" that had that slow of memory you have to go all the way back the the R100 based - original Radeon boards circa 2000
